We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for an Editing Assistant II (Hybrid) on our Scientific Publications team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

This role prepares accepted JAMA Network Manuscripts in electronic format,
including tables, in accordance with the journal style and using the
Pre-editing and QC checklist, macros, and eXtyles; meet standards for priority,
quality, and volume.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Edit and Review Accepted JAMA Network Manuscripts
  • Process manuscripts, including tables, in accordance with the journal style, using the pre-editing and QC checklist, macros, and eXtyles; meet standards for priority, quality, timelines, and volume
  • Use eXtyles SI to run advanced processes on manuscripts
  • Ensure that elements of each submission (such as authors, affiliations, and headings) conform with AMA style
  • Communicate with editorial staff and update manuscript tracking system (JPS)

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High-school diploma or equivalent education required. Associates degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.

  2. 2+ years of work experience required, experience in the publishing field preferred.

  3. Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat DC required.

  4. Experience with manuscript tracking system (eg, JPS) or similar software preferred.

  5. Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including authors, editorial managers, and systems managers.

  6. High level of concentration required to edit and spend long hours in front of the computer.

  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, often under deadline pressure.

  8. Minimal travel required (less than 5%).

The American Medical Association is located at 330 N. Wabash Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611 and is convenient to all public transportation in Chicago.

This role is a non-exempt position and the hourly range for this position is $23.63-$30.83. This is the lowest to highest rate we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
