The Opportunity: Avantor is seeking a Distribution Supervisor. The Supervisor delivers day-to-day operational objectives by overseeing a team of distribution associates, including warehouse operators, material handlers, and/or administrative support staff. Sets daily priorities for the team and oversees the execution of distribution activities, such as order fulfillment, inventory movement, and shipment scheduling, ensuring alignment with operational plans and service targets. Reviews team performance and workflows to ensure efficiency and recommends adjustments or enhancements to processes and procedures to improve the effectiveness of the distribution area. Works on problems and issues within the distribution function, such as delays, space constraints, or inventory discrepancies, requiring analysis of operational data and performance metrics. Communicates with internal and external contacts, including supply chain planning, transportation providers, and customer service teams, on matters that require understanding operational dependencies, supporting cross-functional goals, and engaging others to resolve issues or implement improvements.

This is a full-time position based at our Batavia, IL, office.

What we're looking for:

  • Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree preferred.

  • Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience required; 1+ year of leadership responsibility.

  • Shipping experience preferred.

  • Hazmat experience desired.

  • IATA shipping experience a plus.

  • Trainer certification is a plus.

  • Experience with Lean principles and engineered labor standards.

  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.

  • EWM within SAP.

Additional Qualifications:,accuracy and timely completion

  • Customer-centric mindset.

  • Requires demonstrated skills in leadership, organization, and communication.

  • Requires an understanding of warehousing operations.

  • Familiarity with computer systems, warehouse systems, and computerized scanning equipment is a plus.

  • Safety is extremely important.

  • Must be able to manage stress caused by tight scheduling and deadlines.

  • Must be able to shift priorities easily.

How you will thrive and create an impact:

  • Provides daily direct supervision of distribution associates to ensure the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the warehouse.

  • Develops and implements shipping schedules and assignments to ensure efficient operations.

  • Applies sound communication and motivational techniques when supervising, coaching, and disciplining employees.

  • Conducts performance reviews.

  • Directs and supervises all outbound shipments to ensure they are correct and completed in a timely manner.

  • Tours the warehouse regularly to answer questions, evaluate operations, and solve problems.

  • Recommends programs to the Mgr. - Distribution to improve warehouse operations.

  • Allocates equipment to ensure efficient use.

  • Interacts with other departmental management to achieve goals.

  • Attends warehouse planning meetings.

  • Ensures that all records and reports regarding warehouse activity are prepared in a timely manner and effectively maintained.

  • Reviews operating goals and standards and monitors achievement.

  • Reviews warehouse operations daily to ensure the warehouse is neat and well organized and that damage to product, equipment, and the facility is prevented.

  • Ensures that all safety procedures and policies are followed.

  • Operates in compliance with OSHA and other applicable standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$56,500.00 - $90,850.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
