The Opportunity

We are seeking a Research & Knowledge Supervisor to join our Firm. This position will be based in our New York office (hybrid). The Research & Knowledge Supervisor role is responsible for supervising New York and Wilmington (WIL) Research & Knowledge Services (R&KS) analysts across all shifts. This individual will collaborate with the Senior R&KS Manager on evaluations, interviewing, onboarding, and other administrative responsibilities. The supervisor will be responsible for researching and providing legal, business and reference information to attorneys in all practice areas of the Firm using online and print resources.

  • Develops information network within and outside the Firm.
  • Monitors requests on Firm issued device while out of office and during off hours and coordinates with business services professionals in all offices to complete pending requests.
  • Communicates departmental guidelines and procedures.
  • Delegates work to NY and WIL Research Analysts when appropriate.
  • Uses workflow software for distribution and recording of research and KM requests.
  • Actively monitors research requests for all offices and provides guidance to research business services professionals proactively when warranted.
  • Mentors and trains NY and MIL Research Analysts.
  • Provides Senior R&KS Manager with detailed assessments of work performance in preparation of annual performance evaluations.
  • Uses workflow software and Generative AI tools to generate statistical analyses of workload to identify issues and trends.
  • Recommends and participates in disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the appropriate office R&KS manager and Human Resources.
  • Effectively addresses and resolves work-related problems and/or conflicts that arise among the NY and WIL Research Analysts.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Participates in the interviewing, selection and training process.
  • Keeps attorneys aware of new developments in their practice areas.
  • Educates attorneys and business services professionals about the R&KS Department's services.
  • Contributes to development and organization of research materials in the R&KS Department.
  • Assists with conducting department orientation for new and lateral attorneys when needed.
  • Perfects research skills using online and print sources, incorporating new technology.
  • Evaluates new and updated versions of online and print information resources.
  • Works on Knowledge Management projects as assigned.
  • Uses workflow software for the distribution and recording of research and KM requests.
  • Ensures current knowledge of Firm policies and practices, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for business services professionals.
  • Recommends and implements changes and improvements in methods and procedures to Senior R&KS Manager.
  • Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and long-range plans.
  • Oversees employees' work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems.
  • Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm's Core Values.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Reviews research responses for quality and provides real-time coaching to analysts.
  • Manages routine scheduling, weekend and holiday coordination, and new-hire onboarding logistics.
  • Serves as first-level escalation point for operational issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Docket Navigator, Pacer, DNBi, RBsource, Deal Point Data, PitchBook, Refinitiv, Workspace, Capital IQ, Courthouse News Service, Accurint, HeinOnline and other comparable legal and business research databases
  • Highly proficient in Research & Knowledge Services specific applications, including workflow systems and has demonstrated experience reflecting innovative use of Research & Knowledge Services automated systems and technology
  • Understands and is expertly proficient in performing research on the Internet
  • Understands and efficiently uses common social networking and online collaboration tools where appropriate
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional library science principles and practices, law firm operations and procedures and experience with standard secondary research sources
  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to effectively supervise others
  • Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate effectively
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Education and Experience Required

  • Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalent experience (minimum of four years)
  • Minimum of six years related experience in a legal or corporate information center
  • Minimum of two years supervisory or leadership experience

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.

$140,000 - $155,000
