Junior Specialist - Clinical Research (COSI Lab)

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

University of California, San Francisco

The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a motivated candidate for a Junior Specialist position to support clinical and computational research within the Computational Orthopaedics & Surgical Innovation (COSI) Lab, led by Professor Stefano A. Bini, MD.

This position is designed for individuals interested in gaining research experience in orthopaedics, digital health, and surgical innovation. The Junior Specialist will contribute to ongoing research projects and assist with study coordination, data analysis, and manuscript development. This is a 12-month appointment.

The selected candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and support the advancement of research initiatives within the COSI Lab. The candidate is expected to demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively coordinate tasks and contribute within a collaborative, team-based research environment.

Core Responsibilities



  • Assist with literature reviews and development of research questions
  • Support study design, data collection, and data management
  • Perform data analysis using appropriate statistical or computational tools
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation and submission
  • Assist with grant preparation and research documentation
  • Coordinate with research team members to support ongoing projects


Required Qualifications



  • Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in a relevant field such as bioengineering, computer science, data science, public health, or a related discipline
    or
    At least four years of relevant research experience
  • Applicant must meet the qualifications by the time of hire.
  • Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple research tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based research environment and contribute to group projects
  • Experience coordinating research activities or supporting team-based initiatives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities


See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000 - $58,600.
