Apex is hiring an Occupational Safety Specialist to be based in St. Louis, MO.

Role Overview:

This role is all aboutassistingaApex clientswithoccupational safety & health. The incumbent will be involved ina variety ofprojects related toindustrial safety, employee accident prevention, andoccupational health issues.

The role will routinely involve a blend of (1) workplace / shop flooremployee safety and health engagement, and (2)safety & healthprogram management effectiveness evaluations and continuous improvement support.The shop floor aspect of this roleroutinelyrequires a great deal of walking.Manycustomer'ssitesarelargeand sprawling; it can routinely require walkingaquarteror half milein order toreacha specificinterior or exteriorlocation.

The incumbent will also provide project leadership as needed.Perhaps mostimportantly, the incumbent will be an energetic self-starter with the ability to work independently and produce results within budget andtimeframe.

Your Responsibilities as an ApexOccupational SafetyProfessional:

Providingcomprehensiveoccupationalsafetyand healthconsulting services totheclient, including:





    • Conducting reviews of existing safety and health programs - from either a regulatory compliance perspective, or an effectiveness-in-action perspective.
    • Conducting shop floor observations focused onidentifying, assessing and risk-ranking employee exposures to injury.
    • Devising solution options aimed at mitigating employee injury exposures.
    • Providingtheclient with hands-onassistancewiththeimplementation of chosen solutions.
    • Monitoring the effectiveness of solutions implemented.Have they stood the test of time?
    • ConductJob Hazard Analysis (JHAs)


  • In collaboration with Apex project managers, coordinates and executes industrial safety projects within set organizational procedures and standards.
  • In close routine collaboration with the customer, designs, implements and executes an agreed-to service plan. Monitors and reports progress on plan completion as directed. Works with numerous internal and external stakeholders in the interest of achieving desired overall project velocity.
  • Acts as an advisor to the customer on occupational safety and health issues.
  • Provides input to project managers, client relationship managers, or business development staff on potential new EHS support projects.


What we're looking for:



  • Bachelor's degreepreferred- ideally, in a science or engineering field.
  • Minimum8-10years of experiencerequiredin theindustrial safety & health field.
  • Experience inmanufacturing-&-assembly industries / heavy industry settings a plus.Experience in the aerospace and defense or automotive industrya furtherplus.
  • Possess an extensive knowledge ofoccupational safetytechnical subject matter and how to apply it in real-life settings.Highly familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within theoccupational safetyfield.Just a few topics where strong technical knowledge isrequired:

    • Shop Floor Hazard Identification Surveys
    • Job Safety Analysis / Job Hazard Analysis
    • Employee Injury Data Analysis
    • Machine Guarding
    • Slip/Trip/Fall Prevention
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Personal Protective Equipment
    • Safety Committees & Conducting Safety Meetings/Training: for Touch Labor, Supervisory Staff, and Management
    • Broad spectrum OSHA Regulations understanding
    • Industrial Hygiene worker exposure monitoringand sampling


  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • A great deal of creativity and self-starter initiative is required. This position entails routine ongoing work and negotiation with numerous customer stakeholders - all of whom need to be 'satisfied' with respect to project purpose, scope, and tactics.
  • Rely on experience and judgment paired with the overall work statement provided by the customer to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact on the organization.
  • Strong technical writing skills, the ability to successfully multi-task, safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices
  • Experience with data management andreport preparation.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.


Travel Expectations:



  • No travel unless asked byclient.
  • As noted above,a great deal of walking isrequired,on a daily basis.

This Contract/Project-Based position has no guaranteedmulti-yeardurationandwhile we aim to provide continuity of employment whenever possible, the nature of thispositionmay involve gaps between projects.
