Job Description

The VP, Ceded Reinsurance leads the end-to-end execution of outwards treaty reinsurance placements for Clearbrook Group Holdings, Inc. across all property and casualty lines. This role is a strategic partner to the business, supporting the unique needs of Argo Casualty, Argo Specialty, Farm Family, and Runoff segments. You will be responsible for structuring complex reinsurance programs, managing global broker and reinsurer relationships, and ensuring the group's capital and balance sheet interests are protected through robust risk transfer strategies.

Placement Strategy + Execution

  • End-to-end placement: lead the lifecycle of multiple annual treaty placements, from initial structure proposals and timeline management to final negotiation and execution
  • Marketing leadership: direct the preparation of comprehensive external submissions for the global reinsurance market
  • Cross-functional collaboration: act as the primary liaison between underwriting, claims, actuarial, capital modeling, exposure management, finance, and group legal to ensure cohesive placement objectives are met
  • Market negotiation: drive negotiations with intermediaries and reinsurers to secure optimal terms, conditions, and pricing

Executive Communication + Reporting

  • Committee leadership: present strategic updates and placement outcomes to the Reinsurance Committee (including the CEO, CFO, and CRO)
  • Strategic advisory: keep senior leadership apprised of market developments, potential program risks, and balance sheet impacts

Contractual + Regulatory Governance

  • Document integrity: own the accuracy of timely delivery of all contractual documentation, including placement slips, cover notes, endorsements, and special acceptances
  • Compliance: ensure 100% adherence to internal and regulatory timeframes, including FAS113 documentation and SOX compliance
  • Wording excellence: continuously review and refine treaty wording to ensure "best-in-class" protection and clarity across all segments

Risk Management + Special Projects

  • Counterparty oversight: manage reinsurance credit risk by ensuring all participating reinsurers meet group security standards
  • Strategic analysis: conduct ad-hoc analysis on capital impacts and support special projects, including M&A due diligence and the development of new, innovative reinsurance structures
  • Relationship management: manage high-level broker RFPs and maintain strategic long-term partnerships with key global reinsurers

Leadership + Team Development

  • Mentorship: directly manage and develop junior associates, fostering a high-performance culture and technical growth within the team
  • Resource planning: analyze future resource needs to support the evolving ceded reinsurance function

Qualifications + Experience

  • Experience: minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in Reinsurance (broking, underwriting, or buying/ceded)
  • Technical knowledge: deep understanding of insurance, reinsurance, and actuarial principles as they relate to contract structuring and pricing
  • Interpersonal skills: exceptional negotiation and communication skills; ability to influence senior executives and global stakeholders
  • Operational excellence: high attention to detail with the ability to manage complex, quantitative tasks under tight deadlines
  • Technical savvy: proficiency in working with diverse departments such as exposure management, capital modeling, and finance
  • Flexibility: ability to travel globally and work outside standard office hours to meet the demands of global market cycles

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.

  • Richmond, Chicago, and New York City Pay Ranges: $214,302.00 - $257,142.00
