Position Summary

Light & Wonder is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel, Employment to join its global Legal Department. Reporting to and working closely with the Associate General Counsel for Data Privacy and Employment, this role carries broad responsibility for employment and labor matters across the United States and Canada, with additional exposure to gaming regulatory and compliance matters unique to the industry.

The ideal candidate brings sharp legal instincts, sound business judgment, and the ability to translate complex employment and compliance issues into clear, actionable guidance for management. We are looking for someone who leads with practical solutions and collaborates effectively with colleagues across the Legal and HR Departments.

Employment & Labor Law Counseling

  • Advise on the full range of employment and labor law matters in the United States, including hiring, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, investigations, compensation and benefits, discipline, and terminations.

  • Draft and provide guidance on employment, compliance, and safety and security policies and procedures, including those governing employee discipline and termination, wage and hour classification, workplace-related issues, federal contractor-related issues, and other employment related issues.

Regulatory & Administrative Matters

  • Advise on and support responses to administrative charges and proceedings before federal and state agencies, including the EEOC, DOL, and NLRB.

  • Monitor and advise on developments in federal, state, and local employment law and regulations, and assess their impact on company policies and practices.

Employee Relations & Investigations

  • Counsel management, HR and compliance on employee relations matters, including investigations of workplace complaints, harassment, and misconduct allegations.

  • Negotiate, analyze, and coordinate the resolution of pre-litigation employment claims.

Contracts & Documentation

  • Negotiate, draft, and interpret agreements implicating labor and employment law, including restrictive covenants.

Training, Compliance & Policy Development

  • Assist inthe development and delivery of employment-related compliance training.

Global & Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with the Associate General Counsel for Data Privacy and Employment in overseeing a global team of immigration specialists responsible for work visa processing and related immigration matters.

  • Advise on employment-related issues in Canada.

  • Support additional projects and initiatives as directed by the Associate General Counsel for Data Privacy and Employment.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • Active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar

Professional Experience

Required

  • At least 6 years of relevant employment and labor law experience at a national law firm, in-house, or a combination thereof.

  • Demonstrated expertise in employment litigation, including drafting pleadings and motions in federal court, preparing position statements before the EEOC, responding to NLRB proceedings, and managing the discovery process, with particular emphasis on ESI discovery.

  • Expertise in providing advice and counsel on a broad range of labor and employment law matters.

Preferred

  • Experience with or exposure to immigration matters is preferred; candidates with significant immigration experience will be given favorable consideration.

  • Experience advising on data privacy in the US and/or internationally is preferred.

  • Past experience advising on Canadian labor and employment matters is preferred.

  • Federal judicial clerkship experience is a plus.

  • Collaborative team player who builds and maintains strong relationships with internal clients, including HR partners, and external counterparts. Experience managing outside counsel relationships, including oversight of litigation strategy, staffing, and budgets.

Physical and Office Requirements:

Office Environment

The Light & Wonder Legal Department requires a minimum of four days per week in the office. This position is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, but candidates located near the company's offices in Alpharetta, Georgia or Chicago, Illinois will also be considered. Remote locations may be considered for exceptional candidates.

The targeted pay range for this role is $175,000-$200,000. The total compensation package for this position may also include applicable incentive compensation, such as an annual performance bonus. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that may include, but are not limited to skill set, depth of experience, specific work geography, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
