Overview

MBP has exciting opportunities for project managers with experience in the design and construction of higher education laboratory facilities, who demonstrate a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving design and construction problems, determining program objectives and requirements, and organizing programs and projects. Experience with laboratory projects for higher education and/or healthcare end users required.



Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES:

Managing lab projects through design phase to include coordinating work of various project entities (owner, designer, contractor, and other project stakeholders personnel). Recognized as key client contact point and supporting senior project management team leaders. Prepares, monitors, and manages the design process for the client along with the development of project budgets. Ensure that client design standards are adhered to throughout the design process

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:

B.S. in Architecture is preferred with experience on laboratory and mechanical , electrical, plumbing (MEP) system focused projects. Professional registration, other job-relevant certifications such as CCM, or advanced specialized technical knowledge are preferred. Detailed knowledge of lab design and construction along with associated MEP requirements. Familiarity with code requirements and consultant selection process are also required. Knowledge of personnel and project management techniques, including budgeting, leadership, training, and business development. Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Expertise with MBP's diverse services. Provides leadership and training to other team members. Serves as direct client contact and provides client care. Operates at level of expert in one or more service areas with responsibility for final work product.

    Support assigned projects during the project planning stage by working with the municipal permits and permissions agencies to ensure required submissions are prepared, presented and approved to meet required project execution timelines.
  • Advocate for the Owner's interests in regular meetings with municipal authorities and authorities having jurisdiction in the planning and permitting process.
  • Review requested architectural plans to support Program Directors.
  • Verify the Owner's design standards are adhered to during design development process.
  • Provide code and constructability review for the Architectural discipline on an ongoing basis. Lead and coordinate plan review services from other disciplines (Civil, Structural, Plumbing, HV AC, and Electrical.)
  • Develop planning models based on the needs of department and institutional priorities.
  • Participate in the resolution of planning and technical conflicts and recommend cost effective options and approaches.
  • Ensure that institutional planning objectives and strategies are incorporated into departmental plans and projects.
  • Manage authorizations by preparing succinct presentations that distill complex project issues into distinct, clear options, thereby allowing for informed and timely decision-making.
  • Provide information and recommendations on physical and comprehensive planning and design issues, large-scale planning studies, and special facilities planning topics.
  • Manage and review the progress and quality of the work performed by outside and in-house consultants.
  • Act as the primary contact among project architects, other consultants various building committees, technical and operations groups, and staff members during the planning phase of the project.
  • Provide advice to verify conformity with specifications, codes, regulations, and the Owner's design standards.
  • Develop architectural program requirements.
  • Develop overall project budgets including construction, consultant and other fees, furnishings and equipment, operations, and testing costs.
  • Manage the selection of consultants.
  • Verify projects in the planning phase are completed within the approved budget and schedule.
  • Capable of managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize internal and external processes.
  • Able to stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain.

GUIDANCE/RESPONSIBILITY:

Generally able to work independently and determine solutions. Receives overall guidance on emphasis and approach from the Owner's senior leadership team.

SALARY:

$105,000-$150,000
