I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION






Job Description Summary:
Family Medical and Counseling Services, Inc. ( FMCS) is working with the Department of Epidemiology in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University ( GWU) to conduct an NIH-funded longitudinal cohort study, called the "DC Cohort", to capture clinical information on persons living with HIV and receiving care in Washington, DC. FMCS is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to assist in the conduct of this study and several related sub-studies.

This study is conducted in partnership with numerous clinical providers in Washington, DC, the DC Department of Health, and the National Institutes of Health. The Research Assistant will assist the site Principal Investigator and Project Director in the overall management and coordination of the study.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Obtain patient informed consents to participate in DC Cohort Study and related sub-studies and address relevant patient questions
  • Maintain site compliance with the IRB, consent procedures, and Manual of Policies and Procedures
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date data files and perform routine quality assurance measures Track, document, and report instances of participant refusal and study withdrawal Assist with data linkage to the DC Department of Health
  • Upload and regularly update patient data from the site into the DC Cohort database
  • Perform data quality checks and take appropriate action as necessary
  • Assist the data export contractor in ensuring that data export programs are functioning properly from the site to the DC Cohort database
  • Collaborate with FMCS Site PI to ensure site is meeting performance standards
  • Coordinate other study management activities as needed


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong data management and computer skills
  • Experience working with research databases like Microsoft Excel, REDCap, and ACCESS is desired
  • Experience working with patients and/or research participants
  • Experience with the clinical aspects of HIV disease or conduct of HIV research Excellent verbal and written communication skills is desired
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with clinical research

Hiring Range $18.40 - $23.07
