Job Description:

The Senior Specialist, Strategic Communications, creates compelling content for a variety of platforms, including digital, print, video, social media, web, live presentations, and direct client outreach. This person plays a key role in raising awareness of the firm's news, programs, and initiatives for internal and external audiences, and increasing engagement within all offices. The Senior Specialist, Strategic Communications works with attorneys and professional staff to manage projects from concept to completion, creating work that advances firm objectives and showcases our refreshed brand. Under the supervision of attorneys, the Senior Specialist, Strategic Communications, also communicates directly with clients through external case status updates and by creating content for key events.

Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Director, Strategic Communications

  • Work closely with attorneys, communications and marketing/business development colleagues to identify and meet communication needs. Create dynamic, compelling content for internal and external audiences that reflects our brand, supports key firm initiatives, and inspires engagement.
  • Draft stories, interview sources, script and record videos, and devise and manage audience engagement campaigns.
  • Conceptualize, write, and edit internal communications for C-suite leaders and functional area leaders.
  • Shape the direction of our new, next-gen employee engagement platform (NPConnect); serve as editorial director and chief content generator, provide quality control guidance and strategic direction to project collaborators
  • Create a weekly email digest of top news across the firm (This Week @ NP).
  • Work with key stakeholders on projects as assigned. Lead strategic content development for Week of Service, Pro Bono, DEI, Mental Health and Well Being, and other areas.
  • Serve as part of a team guiding executive visibility strategies for C suite leaders including the managing partner, chief operating officer, and chief talent officer.
  • Own various content areas for the firm's annual partner meeting and other major internal and external events, including identifying speakers, conceptualizing presentations, providing logistical support, scripting and rehearsing presenters, and creating on-site engagement activities.
  • Work directly with clients, or with clients under the direct supervision of attorneys, on content for the firm's website, case status updates for clients with open matters, and content for events featuring or co-sponsored by clients.
  • Collaborate with the marketing/business development team on writing attorney bios, practice-and industry-focused web content, external advertising, evites, alumni communications, and other outreach.
  • Advise functional areas of downstream communications impacts of their initiatives. Develop plans to socialize and roll out new programs and initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with attorneys and other internal stakeholders.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment. Experience with video products and content management systems preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field. Work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Outstanding ability to distill complex concepts into succinct information anyone can understand.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and comfort with using such tools to augment personal and team creativity, rather than to create work product.
  • Excellence in various aspects of video production-live and remote recording, scripting, talent management, editing (either through direct use of video editing tools or by guiding the efforts of a video editor).
  • Ability to communicate various topics, from routine to highly strategic, and to identify the appropriate medium for each communications piece.
  • Ability to skillfully communication approach for different audiences.
  • Experience with and knowledge of top content management systems, and an ability to work with stakeholders at varying levels of technological ability.
  • Ability to skillfully advise on high-level communications strategy and to present that strategy to key stakeholders.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to give and take direction from a variety of colleagues in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Ability to build productive relationships and offer trusted communications guidance to attorneys and other key stakeholders. Ability to collaborate with people of many different personality types and work styles.
  • Experience increasing audience engagement within a large professional services or nonprofit organization.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously without compromising quality.
  • Comfort working under pressure and with strict timelines. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work productively with a variety of personalities.
  • Demonstrated interest in the issues, concepts, and terminology of the legal industry or other professional services field is highly desirable.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Boston, MA: $70,000 to $100,100
  • New York, NY: $77,000 to $110,000
  • Long Island, NY: $77,000 to $110,000
  • Washington, DC: $70,000 to $100,100
  • Los Angeles, CA: $70,000 to $100,100

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
