| Position Summary |
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as virtual/hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs. This is a hybrid position based in Chapel Hill, NC, with a combination of on-site and remote work, including occasional statewide travel for trainings and stakeholder meetings as assigned.
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, fixed-term Clinical Instructor to join the North Carolina Psychiatry Access Line (NC-
PAL) team, supporting the perinatal psychiatry (NC
MATTERS) and Early Childhood workstreams. NC-
PAL and NC
MATTERS are sister programs that enhance care for children and perinatal patients with behavioral health needs in primary care settings through provider education, capacity building, and care coordination support.
The Clinical Instructor will provide clinical consultation, care coordination, and resource support to health care professionals statewide. This role also supports training and outreach initiatives focused on perinatal, infant, and early childhood mental health and provides clinical supervision to provisionally licensed social workers (LCSWAs).
This position plays a key role in expanding access to high-quality behavioral health care for perinatal individuals and young children across North Carolina by strengthening the capacity of the health care workforce.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide independent frontline coverage for the NC MATTERS perinatal psychiatry access line, delivering clinical consultation, care coordination, and referral linkage support to health care providers via telephone and secure messaging.
- Develop and facilitate virtual and in-person training for health care professionals and stakeholders on perinatal mental health, infant and early childhood mental health, and related topics. Will also provide all logistical support to ensure meetings run smoothly.
- Provide clinical supervision to LCSWAs, supporting professional development, clinical skill-building, and adherence to best practices.
- Utilize clinical judgment to support care coordination and follow-up activities that promote timely connection of perinatal patients to appropriate mental health and community-based services.
- Participate in health care provider outreach and engagement activities in collaboration with the Program Director and the NC-PAL Outreach and Engagement Team.
- Develop and revise provider-facing training and educational materials (e.g., webinars, toolkits, websites, flyers).
- Develop and update patient-facing mental health education and resource materials (e.g., resource guides, flowcharts, decision-support tools).
- Complete documentation and submit regular reports related to program activities, outcomes, and progress toward goals.
- Participate in team meetings, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ongoing professional development activities.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program.
- Current unrestricted licensure as a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in good standing.
- Minimum of two (2) years of full-time post-licensure clinical social work experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of perinatal and/or early childhood mental health conditions and evidence-based treatment approaches including familiarity with evidence-informed practices such as trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, infant and early childhood mental health frameworks, and/or behavioral health integration in primary care.
- Experience with clinical assessment and treatment planning for perinatal and/or early childhood populations.
- Experience providing consultation, care coordination, and support to health care providers (e.g., psychiatry access programs, integrated care settings).
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage professionally and effectively with health care professionals via phone, email, secure messaging, and in person.
- Experience presenting, facilitating, or teaching in virtual and/or in-person settings.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
