THE POSITION

Join the Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation as a Semi Skilled Laborer and help make a positive difference across Pennsylvania. Your efforts will support abandoned mine land reclamation projects that protect communities and improve the environment. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support abandoned mine land reclamation efforts by performing manual labor, operating equipment, and assisting project crews across the region. The work you will do helps protect communities, improve land conditions, and maintain safe operations. As a Semi Skilled Laborer, you will perform the following duties:

  • Manual Labor: Perform tasks such as shoveling, raking, carrying materials, laying pipe, maintaining grounds, and completing landscaping activities
  • Equipment Assistance: Support equipment operators and construction foremen during abandoned mine land reclamation projects
  • Tool Operation: Operate, maintain, and repair hand power tools including drills, power saws, chainsaws, and multi purpose saws
  • Vehicle Operation: Drive truck and trailer combinations on secondary roads throughout western Pennsylvania
  • Equipment Maintenance: Carry out routine and preventative maintenance on excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and other equipment after training
  • Record Keeping: Maintain daily reports of equipment usage and record hours of operation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
