The UCSD Prosocial Skills Program (PROS) is a collaboration between the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science and the UC San Diego Health Level I Trauma Center - Injury Prevention Program. The UCSD Prosocial Skills Program (PROS) is a multipronged prevention and intervention program addressing key drivers of gun violence in the San Diego community. UCSD PROS boosts economic stability of at-risk community members via service navigation, career coaching, interpersonal skill building, and tattoo removal. The current expansion of UCSD PROS includes a new hospital-based violence intervention and prevention (HVIP) program at UC San Diego Health's Level 1 Trauma Center in Hillcrest and a school-based resilience program to build protective factors among San Diego Unified at-risk middle and high school youth and their families. The Community Resilience Coach is a licensed clinical social worker who provides patient-centered and trauma-informed behavioral health service navigation and case management to eligible trauma patients, and/or their family members, admitted due to violent injury. This role aims to stabilize and improve violent injury patients' outcomes, mitigate social and economic drivers of gun violence, and promote protective factors and patient self-efficacy. The Community Resilience Coach delivers PROS Soft Skills and resilience coaching, conducts assessments, and works collaboratively with other UCSD PROS staff (e.g., Service Navigator, Peer Support Specialist, Career Coach) to support the fulfillment of enrolled patients' individual service plans. In collaboration with other hospital-based PROS team members, the Community Resilience Coach will also deliver off-site prevention services at San Diego Unified School District locations - facilitating evidence-based resilience curriculum for healthy coping skills to protect against trauma and violence, and connecting parents/guardians of enrolled youth to UCSD PROS Core Services as needed.
