In the role of Geologist I, we'll count on you to
  • Travel required to perform oversight of drilling operations, including logging and classifying soil and rock materials in accordance with applicable standards
  • Set up field exploration programs and coordinate with subcontractors
  • Conduct field visits to observe construction activities, including earthwork and foundation installations
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Be capable of working independently or in a team environment assisting senior geotechnical staff
  • Perform assignments exercising judgement in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard geologic techniques and procedures
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with field work a plus but not required
  • Experience preparing technical reports, well diagrams, and boring logs a plus but not required
  • Experience with GIS preferred
  • Familiarity with CAD software (MicroStation) preferred
  • Must be willing to travel throughout North Carolina and Southeast region as needed
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Hydrogeology or closely related field
  • Ability to assess and classify soil and rock samples to determine geologic type
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)
  • May require ability to travel
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
