Job Summary:
Performs biomedical and/or social-behavioral research by administering tests and/or questionnaires following established protocols; collecting, compiling, and processing data; and assisting in the preparation of materials for reports. All activities are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including guidelines from the Northwestern University Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and International Council for Harmonisation (ICH).
The Research Study Coordinator supports the coordination and conducts of research activities for the MESA MIND study. Responsibilities include participant recruitment and follow-up, scheduling and conducting study visits, collecting clinical and survey data, and maintaining study documentation in accordance with protocols and regulatory requirements. The coordinator works under general supervision and ensures timely and accurate completion of study activities.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $21.00 - $21.50 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Specific Responsibilities:
Technical
- Conduct participant visits, including cognitive testing, questionnaires, and basic clinical procedures (e.g., phlebotomy, vital signs, anthropometric measures)
- Obtain informed consent and explain study procedures
- Perform participant outreach to collect study data, scheduling, and follow-up calls
- Collect, process, and ship biological specimens per protocol
- Maintain accurate documentation of participant interactions and study data
- Support recruitment, retention, and study visit completion goals
Administration
- Enter and manage study data in electronic databases (e.g., REDCap)
- Maintain study records and ensure compliance with protocols and regulatory requirements
Finance
- May process participant payments and basic study-related expenses as needed
Supervision
- May assist in training other research staff to interview/test participants.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
- Bachelor's degree in public health, biology, psychology, or a related field
- Prior experience in clinical research or healthcare setting preferred
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with data entry and electronic data systems (e.g., REDCap or similar)
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
- Previous phlebotomy and blood processing experience
- Previous practical research study or related experience
- Experience performing health assessments
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
- Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations; proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese preferred
- Comfort performing clinical procedures (e.g., phlebotomy, vitals) with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with clinical research workflows and protocol-driven environments
- Ability to adjust to changing study needs, protocols, and workflows
- Strong understanding of data accuracy, validation, and query resolution
