The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

The Critical Infrastructure Group (CIG) within JOID provides technical, programmatic and analytical support to customers with missions in national security to include the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Group brings technical and operational expertise in fields of countering weapons of mass destruction, critical infrastructure protection, emergency response, nuclear non-proliferation, weapons deployment programs, and transportation safety. In addition to management and advisory services, CIG staff collaborate closely with our clients to provide high-quality modeling, simulation, software, and analytical products to meet the most demanding government standards and timelines.

We have an immediate need for a Risk Assessment Specialist to provide hybrid support out of the client's facility near Washington, DC.


Responsibilities

The Risk Assessment Specialist will provide advanced analytical support to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) and apply rational, systematic, science-based techniques and critical thinking to help inform and improve the Department's decision-making abilities for preparation, response, and recovery to WMD scenarios. Will participate in a wide range of modeling activities including, but not limited to, model implementation and operations and improvement. Assist in identifying, prioritizing, and executing analyses to help demonstrate and expand analytical rigor and capability. Develop and use operations research techniques such as mathematical optimization, decision analysis, graph theory, and statistical analysis. Implement data exploration techniques, analytical methods, operations research, and modeling and simulation tools to support program execution. Develop plans of action and timetables in order to meet established deadlines. Assist in the development of briefings, memos, and Contract Deliverables. Assist with data integration requirements development.


Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree in Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Intelligence or a related discipline
  • 0-2+ years of experience
  • Proven ability to prioritize and execute workload to meet requirements and deadlines
  • Experience developing compelling written and visual communications that are clear, concise, and suited to the audience
  • Ability to work in a high profile and fast paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and able to obtain DHS Suitability

Desired

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, quantitative social sciences, or a related discipline
  • Experience providing analytical support to the Department of Homeland Security
  • Experience with quantitative risk analysis
  • Experience with CBRNE, Hazmat, and/or emergency response
  • Experience building and validation of models or simulations
  • Experience with Application Security Threat and Attack Modeling (ASTAM)
  • Experience with the Countermeasure Assessment and Planning Tool (CAPT)
  • Experience with the Chemical Consequence and Threat Tool (CCAT)
  • Experience with the Homeland Explosive Consequence and Threat Tool (HExCAT)

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Washington DC Pay Transparency Salary range: $70k-$85k.
