Paid Time Off:

Starting Hourly Wage: $30.77 - $38.46/hour; depending on experience

Location: Lynnwood, WA

Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

The Human Resources Generalist 1 plays a key role in supporting a wide range of HR functions. This includes recruitment, onboarding, training, cross-training in benefits administration, employee relations, and fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct second interviews (in-person) with the hiring team.
  2. Facilitate new hire onboarding.
  3. Maintain Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) applicant tracking data in support of UMC's Affirmative Action Plan.
  4. Support HR-led events and employee engagement initiatives.
  5. Respond to employment-related inquiries from candidates, employees, and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive matters as appropriate.
  6. Assist with updates to the Employee Handbook, including reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
  7. Provide guidance on company policies, employment law compliance, and leadership development.
  8. Collaborate with the HR Director and department leaders on workforce planning and staffing strategies.
  9. Maintain regular and punctual attendance; this is considered an essential function of the role.
  10. Review and analyze exit interview data to identify trends and recommend improvements to staffing practices.
  11. Assist with any other duties as assigned by HR Director.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain job descriptions to ensure they accurately reflect essential functions, required knowledge/skills/abilities (KSAs), physical and cognitive demands, and working conditions.
  2. Provide backup support during staff absences or periods of high demand.
  3. Assist the HR Director with employee relations matters, including accommodations, FMLA, and investigations.
  4. Support the Benefits and Compliance Specialist by ordering business cards and nameplates, as needed.
  5. Provide backup support to the Benefits and Compliance Specialist for data entry of new hires, employee changes, and related personnel updates.
  6. Manage access control systems, including key fobs and security protocols.
Position Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to a variety of audiences, including employees, managers, and external contacts.
  2. Proficiency in preparing reports, manuals, job descriptions, and HR-related policies and procedures.
  3. Ability to assess and respond appropriately to various workplace situations in accordance with applicable employment laws.
  4. Demonstrated discretion and ability to manage confidential information with professionalism.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience in human resources or a related field.

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:

  1. Professional HR certification (e.g., SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred.
  2. Maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
