DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies serves as a catalyst for positive change by advancing global access, equity, and social and economic mobility through educational enrichment across the lifespan.

As a fully self-supporting division under UC San Diego Academic Affairs, Extended Studies operates year-round (12 months of active instruction) with a budget of $50 million annually. A team of 260 academic and staff employees and more than 1,200 instructors fulfill the mission of delivering exceptional educational experiences and services that reflect our standing as part of a top-tier globally renowned public research University.

Extended Studies operates in 110,000 square feet of managed space in our headquarters building, with classrooms, training spaces and key administrative offices adjacent to the UC San Diego campus. The division maintains a robust online learning platform, operating 24/7 with webcasting and video-conferencing capabilities, while also maintaining a strong web presence with e-commerce operating 24/7. There are over 90,000 enrollment transactions annually, supported by a robust network of representatives, agents, and students. Focused on community engagement and enrichment, the division operates two television stations, UCTV and UCSD-TV, and a variety of public lecture programs, while staying active in federal, state, local, and private research and technical assistance programs and activities.

Extended Studies is also responsible for the management and financial, operational, and programming oversight of UC San Diego Park & Market, a 66,000-square-foot, four-story, multi-purpose office building located in the East Village neighborhood of downtown San Diego. Park & Market supports and hosts a wide variety of civic, community, corporate, and campus events, meetings, conferences, and programs.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The core responsibility of this role is managing social media marketing and maintaining client relations within the Marketing Department and between our academic partners. This includes managing day-to-day communications on divisional social media channels, coordinating meetings, and representing the marketing department as a front-line staff member. The Social Media Marketing Specialist serves as the liaison between the client and the marketing functions to ensure business needs and goals are being met, with a particular focus on social media outreach. Efforts to ensure success include coordinating, planning, developing, and supporting the execution of social media marketing plans and objectives. This includes coordinating calendars, vendor and third-party partnerships, and developing key messaging points for social media outreach in collaboration with Program Managers and supporting Marketing functions. This role will also be responsible for supporting marketing events, conducting basic marketing research, creating reports, and tracking and managing financial resources.

This position offers a hybrid (remote/on-site) work arrangement, requiring a minimum of 1 day a week onsite.

This position is at Division of Extended Studies' 8980 Villa La Jolla Dr. location.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices.

  • Solid experience and intimate understanding of traditional, digital, and emerging marketing channels, as well as executing omnichannel marketing campaigns. Demonstrated experience with digital media including social media, blogs, pay-per-click advertising, and search engine optimization. Experience working with Google Ads is a plus.

  • Proven excellent copywriting/editing/proofreading skills for promotional material (print and online) and correspondence.

  • Demonstrated experience in the development, writing, and presentation of marketing plans, strategies, and tactical performance reports using various marketing channels, principles and practices.

  • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing marketing events and trade shows. Familiarity with researching and formulating partnerships with external organizations, professional groups, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability in communicating effectively, clearly, accurately, persuasively, and patiently in person, on the phone, and in writing to constituents/clients of various levels and backgrounds.

  • Time management skills including the ability to monitor tasks and projects, handle multiple priorities, and make resourceful and creative decisions to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Demonstrated experience tracking, reviewing, and reconciling financial data.

  • Solid knowledge of institutional products and services.

  • Knowledge of the campus and / or medical center including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of customer service standards / procedures.

  • Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance and management.

  • Written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to stay highly organized, efficient, and accurate project updates, and be able to perform multiple tasks for different teams/partners at the same time.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Incumbent must be available for occasional evenings / weekends and may be required to attend conferences / programs both locally and out-of-town as requested.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,300 - $103,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.88 - $49.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
