The firm is seeking a Senior Manager, Career Services to become an integral part of our Professional Development Department. The Senior Manager, Career Services will provide guidance and support to Debevoise lawyers and Firm alumni as they explore career options. Additionally, they will work to identify exceptional external career opportunities for lawyers in transition so that they may maintain strong relationships with the Firm.
This is an exempt position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counseling and support for current lawyers and alumni:
  • Provide one-on-one career guidance and coaching to current lawyers and alumni; assist attorneys with defining and achieving career goals, researching and identifying career opportunities, updating resumes and cover letters and exercising job search strategies.
  • Facilitate introductions to members of the Debevoise network, including partners, alumni, clients and third-party recruiters.
  • Develop sample documents and other resources to support career guidance.
  • Offer guidance regarding starting in a new position.
Multi-year strategy for Debevoise's Career Center:
  • Broaden the recognition of a "career culture" at the Firm.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the Firm's clients and industry and practice groups, including partner affiliations.
  • Cultivate relationships with partners, alumni and clients to increase the number and relevance of job leads received; share opportunities and connect current lawyers seeking career guidance with clients and alumni.
  • Identify and circulate in-house and other positions of interest.
  • Create content for Debevoise's alumni newsletter and career and social media sites.
  • Present to summer associates, affinity groups, practice groups and others on career development and the Firm's career service resources.
  • Maintain and report on statistics and data relating to one-on-one career counseling.
  • Collaborate with members of the Firm's Professional Development Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 8-10+ years relevant experience in career counseling, placement and professional development with a track record of success working in professional services or academia.
  • Expert understanding of best practices in career development, career counseling and recruiting coupled with a proven record of developing and implementing successful career placement strategies.
  • Ability to build support and buy-in from various internal and external constituents; willingness to listen and take good advice, seek and embrace feedback and incorporate it into best practices.
  • Positive and dynamic personality with the demonstrated ability to drive measurable results.
  • A highly organized and self-directed approach to managing multiple projects simultaneously; excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to create consensus-based support for strategies and processes.
  • A high level of judgment, discretion and ethics with the ability to maintain confidentiality essential to developing relationships and gaining trust.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor of Arts or undergraduate business degree required, and Master of Arts, J.D. or business degree in related field strongly preferred.
