Role Summary

The Emergency Management Lead advances Rivian's emergency management program through operational leadership, scalable program development, and strong emphasis on automation, AI adoption, and digital enablement. This role supports site, regional, and enterprise readiness through emergency planning, incident coordination, training and exercises, after-action improvement, emergency communications, mass notification, stakeholder engagement, and ongoing program development. The position also requires off-hours availability to support emergency response, incident coordination, and operational needs.


Responsibilities

Automation, AI, and Digital Enablement

  • Lead automation and digital improvement efforts across Emergency Management workflows, using AI and related tools to reduce manual effort, improve speed and consistency, and strengthen program effectiveness.
  • Integrate automation and AI into planning, documentation, communications, training, exercises, reporting, and corrective action processes, while ensuring appropriate human judgment and quality control.

Emergency Planning, Preparedness, and Program Development

  • Develop, maintain, and improve emergency management plans, policies, procedures, templates, SOPs, guidance, training materials, and related documentation across a large multi-site program.
  • Oversee plan governance and lifecycle management, including review, approval, storage, publication, and integration across internal systems, while supporting event planning, scenario guidance, operational tools, and site readiness programs such as 3RT.

Incident Response, Improvement, and Readiness

  • Lead or coordinate during incident activations and support Site Incident Commanders, field teams, and cross-functional stakeholders during incidents of varying scope.
  • Maintain and improve response platforms, emergency coordination channels, after-action processes, corrective action tracking, and lessons-learned integration to strengthen readiness and performance.

Training, Exercises, and Capability Development

  • Develop, manage, and improve the enterprise training and exercise program to ensure it is standardized, practical, measurable, scalable, and aligned with best practices.
  • Design and deliver ICS, emergency response, emergency management, and role-based training, facilitate and evaluate exercises, and maintain readiness records, learning content, and supporting materials for internal stakeholders and external responders.

Cross-Functional Integration, Communication, and External Coordination

  • Serve as the Emergency Management point of contact for Enterprise stakeholders and partner across functions to strengthen preparedness, resilience, and integration into business operations.
  • Manage emergency communication structures, contact governance, templates, and real-time messaging, while maintaining effective relationships with first responders, mutual aid partners, government agencies, and Local Emergency Planning Committees where applicable.

Situational Awareness, Governance, and Compliance

  • Monitor severe weather, natural disasters, environmental conditions, and other emerging threats, and coordinate readiness actions, protective measures, and operational adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain repositories, plans, audit materials, workflows, templates, resilience communications, and supporting incident and crisis management documentation, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, organizational expectations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience in emergency management, including preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation, with strong working knowledge of FEMA guidance, NIMS, ICS, HSEEP principles, and applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing emergency management plans, procedures, SOPs, guidance, training materials, and scalable multi-site preparedness programs.
  • Experience leading or coordinating incidents, conducting after-action reviews, managing corrective actions, and supporting readiness efforts in complex environments.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to teach, influence, collaborate, and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Slack, mass notification systems, and related emergency management platforms, along with demonstrated ability to implement automation solutions and use AI and digital tools responsibly to improve workflows and operational effectiveness.

Years of Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Emergency Management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience developing, implementing, and managing emergency management programs, plans, training, exercises, or incident coordination activities across multiple sites, functions, or business units.
  • Experience working in complex, fast-paced environments requiring cross-functional coordination, regulatory alignment, and operational decision-making during incidents and readiness activities.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Emergency Management, Business Continuity, Disaster Management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in Emergency Management or Business Continuity, such as Certified Emergency Manager, CEM, or Certified Business Continuity Professional, CBCP, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Work Conditions

  • This role will require availability outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and short-notice response during emergencies, incidents, or operational disruptions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting both manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with external first responders, mutual aid partners, government agencies, and Local Emergency Planning Committees.
  • Experience managing emergency communications, mass notification workflows, contact governance, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Experience building scalable emergency management programs in a fast-growing, multi-site organization and using automation, workflow tools, and AI-enabled systems to reduce manual effort and improve performance.

Pay Disclosure

The salary range for this role is USD 125,000-$156,200 for CA based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
