We are seeking a Sustainment Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support our customer in Crane, Indiana on a part-time basis. This role provides senior-level sustainment engineering, In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA), and Integrated Product Support (IPS) expertise in support of fielded Electronic Warfare systems and related program activities. The position is designed for an experienced professional who can advise engineers, logisticians, and program leadership on sustainment strategy, maintenance planning, technical documentation, training products, and long-term readiness of deployed systems. This role is especially well suited for a senior consultant who brings practical experience in sustainment engineering, life-cycle logistics, and Navy support processes and can apply that experience through mentoring, knowledge transfer, document development, and strategic technical guidance. The successful candidate will help improve maintainability, supportability, readiness, and operational effectiveness through focused advisory support rather than day-to-day production engineering execution.
This role requires in-person support.
Duties:

  • Provide expert-level advisory support to Government and contractor personnel on sustainment engineering, ISEA support, and IPS element tasking for fielded systems.
  • Advise on sustainment-related engineering issues including maintenance concepts, obsolescence concerns, engineering investigations, ECP impacts, and supportability improvements.
  • Support development, review, and refinement of maintenance concepts, maintenance tasks, repair standards, allowance parts lists, provisioning inputs, and installation standards/practices.
  • Develop, review, or mentor others in the preparation of sustainment documentation and support products, including Program Support Data (PSD) sheets, variance sheets, technical plans, and related support artifacts.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and training to engineers and logisticians on key Navy sustainment processes, including Navy Training System Plans (NTSPs), Training Transfer Agreements (TTAs), Front-End Analysis (FEA), Training System Requirements Analysis (TSRA), and Baseline Agreement Memorandum (BAM) processes.
  • Support strategic planning and technical decision-making to improve mission readiness, operational availability, and long-term supportability of fielded systems.
  • Assist in the evaluation of sustainment impacts associated with engineering changes, software/hardware updates, maintenance requirements, and field support issues.
  • Contribute to technical reviews, sustainment assessments, and lifecycle planning activities tied to maintenance engineering, logistics support, training support, and in-service engineering.
  • Support the development and review of technical documentation required to sustain fielded systems, including technical manuals, procedures, repair standards, and related lifecycle documentation.
  • Mentor engineering and logistics personnel in best practices for sustainment planning, documentation development, and supportability analysis.
  • Provide senior-level input to leadership on sustainment risks, recommended mitigations, and process improvements.

Desired Education:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Logistics, Business, or a related technical discipline.

Desired Experience:

  • 10+ years professional experience supporting sustainment engineering, in-service engineering, integrated product support, lifecycle logistics, or fielded defense systems.
  • Demonstrated experience providing ISEA and IPS support for Navy or DoD systems.
  • Working knowledge of sustainment planning disciplines such as maintenance engineering, provisioning, training support, technical documentation, supportability analysis, and field/deployed system support.
  • Proven experience with Navy sustainment processes and documentation, including NTSP, TTA, FEA, TSRA, BAM, PSD sheets, or similar support products.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and transfer complex sustainment and logistics knowledge to engineers, logisticians, and program personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare or review technical documentation and provide strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Ability to work independently in a senior advisory capacity with limited oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supporting JCREW, Drake, PMS 408, or comparable EW / countermeasure systems.
  • Experience with In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) functions in a Navy or NAVSEA environment.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Product Support (IPS) elements, lifecycle sustainment planning, and spares/funding support documentation.
  • Experience reviewing or developing technical manuals, supportability documentation, maintenance plans, or training plans.
  • Experience advising on engineering changes, sustainment risks, readiness impacts, and lifecycle support decisions.
  • Experience in a consulting, SME, or mentor role supporting mixed engineering and logistics teams.
  • Eligibility to support higher-classification tasking, as required by assignment.

Work Schedule:
This is a part-time position intended for an experienced professional providing senior advisory, mentoring, training, and sustainment-planning support. Work hours and support cadence will be based on program needs and may include a mix of on-site collaboration, document review, technical mentoring, and periodic customer engagement.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
