Description

The Staff, Process Mechanical Engineering role will assist in providing the conceptual design, preliminary design, and final design for discrete process-mechanical elements for environmental infrastructure, focusing on biosolids and energy, projects during planning and design phases and assist in providing office engineering and field support during the construction phase. Within the biosolids and energy sector the role will further focus on thermal processes including drying and high-temperature technologies like incineration. The role will assist in the development and evaluation of options to select the best suitable processes, or technologies, and equipment for discrete process-mechanical elements of new, expanded, or rehabilitated environmental infrastructure facilities. The role will involve preparing calculations to size and select equipment, ductwork, piping, and piping ancillaries. Additionally, the role will assist in the coordination with architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, electrical and instrumentation and controls engineers, and building-mechanical engineers during the development of design drawings and specifications. The role will assist in guiding BIM professionals in developing 3D models to create construction contract drawings. During the construction phase of a project, the role will assist in preparing reviews for simple contractor submittals, preparing responses to simple requests for information from contractors, and assist in performing site observations to confirm adherence to construction contracts for simple discrete process-mechanical elements.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of simple process-mechanical elements.
  • Assist in preparing simple calculations for and selection of piping and equipment as per project requirements.
  • Assist with the coordination of interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive solutions for simple design elements.
  • Assist in the guidance of BIM professionals for creating accurate and efficient 3D models and contract design documents for simple design elements.
  • Assist in the review of simple construction phase submittals to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Assist in the response to simple contractor requests for information during the construction phase.
  • Assist in performing site observations during the construction phase for simple design elements.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.


Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient use of word processing and spreadsheet-based software tools.
  • Basic understanding of process mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Basic analytical skills in evaluating and designing processes for infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to work well with interdisciplinary teams.


Experience

  • Typically requires minimum of 0-2 years of process mechanical engineering or related experience.
  • Experience in adhering to and applying established procedures and guidelines.
  • Encouraged to certify in the SMS framework in the first six months of being in the role.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Egnyte, BIM 360, and Bluebeam is a plus
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD) is a plus
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Understanding general wastewater treatment processes including biosolids handling is ideal.
  • Background and knowledge of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance and microplastic fate and analytical science is preferred.


Education

  • A bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent experience is required. A Master's is preferred


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $64,000 - $87,000
Location B: $71,000 - $96,000
Location C: $77,000 - $105,000
