Power BI Developer

Hybrid - Newark, DE

Your role in our success:

The Power BI Developer designs, develops, and maintains interactive dashboards and data models to transform complex, raw utility data (e.g., smart meter, grid performance, usage data) into actionable insights. This role focuses on optimizing data visualization, writing complex DAX and SQL queries, and automating reporting to support operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and strategic decision-making.
What you'll be working on:


  • Create and deploy visually appealing, interactive Power BI dashboards and reports to monitor KPIs such as outages and consumption trends.
  • Import, clean, and transform data from multiple sources including SQL, data lakes, and Excel using Power Query and Power BI Desktop.
  • Design efficient, scalable data models aligned with business requirements.
  • Develop complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and advanced calculations to analyze performance data.
  • Work with operational teams and leadership to gather business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and data-driven solutions.
  • Provide training and support to end users on Power BI usage and capabilities.
  • Implement row-level security (RLS) and follow data governance standards to ensure data privacy and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain report performance and data refresh schedules.
  • Stay current with Power BI updates, trends, and industry best practices.


Who you are:


  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a similar role, preferably in the utility or energy industry.
  • Regular driver's license required.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Microsoft Fabric, DAX, and SQL.
  • Experience with Power BI Service and Fabric capacity management including workspaces, gateways, and security setup.
  • Proficiency in ETL processes, SQL, data warehousing concepts, and data modeling methodologies including star and snowflake schemas and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server, Snowflake, and Azure SQL.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear business insights and narratives.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels across the organization.


Nice to have:



  • Experience with Azure Data Services such as Data Factory and Synapse Analytics.
  • Familiarity with other data visualization tools including Tableau, Business Objects, or Qlik.
  • Knowledge of utility-specific systems such as AMI, GIS, or CIS.
  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate Certification or other Microsoft Power BI / Azure / Fabric certifications.
