Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Anesthesiology within the New Jersey Medical School.

Under the direction of the PI, the Postdoctoral Associate will study the impact of RNA oxidation and ribosomal dysfunction on dopamine neuron vulnerability in Parkinsons disease (PD). The individual will also contribute his/her time towards writing manuscripts and review articles that directly result from his/her research. In addition, the individual will also help train graduate students and technicians, and help maintain various equipment. The individual will perform brain perfusions, cryosectioning, immunocytochemistry/immunohistochemistry, advanced staining (antibodies, RNAscope, proximity ligation assays) and high-resolution imaging approaches and quantifications from both mouse and human brains; mouse brain regional dissections; western blotting; and experiments in various in vitro culture systems.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Participates in experimental design and carries out experiments using mouse and human brain material, cultured cells, high resolution fluorescence imaging and image analysis, biochemical, as well as molecular biology approaches.
  • Performs perfusion, cryosectioning, immunocytochemistry approaches, stereological counting and Matlabbased automated image analysis, RNAscope and proximity ligation assays.
  • Operates and maintains experimental equipment; assists in writing protocols for IRB and IACUC.
  • Genotypes distinct knockin and knockout animal model systems.
  • Records, quantifies and analyzes data from experiments.
  • Assists Principal Investigator in data processing.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • The candidate must have a PhD in the fields of Neuroscience or Cell Biology, and must have a strong background in cell biological approaches, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, high-resolution image acquisition and image quantification in mouse brain.
  • Candidates in ABD (all but degree) status will also be considered.

  • The candidate must have the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be able to work independently.
  • The candidate should have a demonstrated record of achievements and publications, good communications skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with human postmortem brain samples is desired.
