Product & Engineering Manager (Auto OEM)

The Product & Engineering Manager plays a key role in supporting and executing marketing and sales strategies in partnership with Commercial Sales, Business Development, Technical Labs and Engineering, Strategic Marketing, and OEM and Tier customer materials engineering teams. This role is focused on driving sales growth, increasing market share, and maximizing profitability within the North American OEM Coatings industry for the Automotive Coatings Business Unit.

You will report to the Product Engineering Director, Americas.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Auto OEM & Tiers Sales and OEM Coatings Customer Teams to support the growth and market penetration of PPG Product Portfolio.

• Coordinate global technology and color support activities across Powder, SPS, A&S, EV, and DCS initiatives in collaboration with OEM and Tier teams.

• Provide product and technical support for APAD, Wheel Underbody, and Ride Performance product lines.

• Support the implementation of established PPO and pricing policies to ensure that the profitability of the product line meets the plan.

• Communicate customer needs and expectations for new business awards to the launch coordinator and execute pre-launch activities in 'Secure Launch' for successful product/technology introduction.

• Provide clear market feedback to Commercial Sales, Business Development, Technical & Strategic Marketing groups to ensure that future product and service development projects are prioritized and are consistent with the voice of the customer.

• Establish and maintain the necessary relationships with customers to ensure long-term growth and profitability.

• Initiate and direct projects/programs and introduce new PPG products with Customer's Engineering Groups which benefit PPG's business and strategic technical position using value selling tools.

• Obtain customer engineering approval of PPG products through coordination with Customer engineering group and PPG technical group including annual MY(model year) color approvals.

• Assist with coordinating global color and technology support activities with the OEM teams when requested.

• This is an individual contributor role.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences discipline. Chemistry, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree would be advantageous.

• 8 or more years of experience with coatings materials and application knowledge; Familiarity with broad coating layers as well as substrates.

• Proven leadership and communication capabilities required to effectively manage complex and dynamic situations.

• Demonstrated strengths in anticipating and analyzing market conditions and trends.

• Microsoft Suite proficiency including Salesforce and Microsoft Project; Familiarity using different CRM or ERP software, along with Power BI experience.

• Candidate may be based in Troy or Flint, Michigan. Occasional travel up to 25% to other PPG Automotive Coatings locations, labs and customer locations.
