What Your Job Will Be Like

The Corporate Web Design and Development team is seeking a Solutions Architect to create and manage a dynamic digital ecosystem that enables employees to efficiently access, share, and manage knowledge through a unified, user-centric platform. The goal is to deliver scalable, reusable, and AI-enhanced web solutions that replace outdated technologies, automate systems, and ensure consistent content experiences across devices and locations. In this role, you will lead the design of complex information systems spanning security, software, networking, and databases to build innovative digital content environments aligned with enterprise needs. You will work closely with customers to translate requirements into sustainable, cost-effective solutions that leverage AI technologies such as AI Chat, Copilot, and enterprise search to improve content discoverability and engagement.

We seek an experienced problem-solver who can independently manage projects, guide strategic architectures, lead cross-functional teams, and mentor others, playing a key role in advancing Sandias mission through cutting-edge web and information system technologies.

A Day in the Life

  • Meeting with customers and stakeholders to gather and refine system requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals and compliance policies.
  • Designing and prototyping scalable, secure, and maintainable information system architectures that integrate commercial-off-the-shelf, open source, and custom-developed solutions.
  • Leading cross-functional teams to implement and evaluate solutions, managing schedules, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Researching emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend and incorporate innovative approaches, including AI-driven tools, into the departments digital ecosystem.
  • Collaborating with other system architects and engineers to define interfaces and ensure seamless integration across multiple platforms.
  • Reporting progress, risks, and technical insights to management and peers, influencing long-term strategic planning.
  • Overseeing documentation, training materials, and marketing efforts related to new system capabilities.
  • Continuously revisiting and refining content management strategies to improve user experience and operational efficiency.

*The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering) or equivalent combination of education and experience; Plus at least five years of experience designing and architecting complex, scalable information systems and web solutions.
  • Expertise in WordPress development, including themes, plugins, and front-end work with ReactJS and other JavaScript frameworks (Angular, Vue.js).
  • Strong skills in front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, or CSS pre-processors (Sass, Less), focusing on reusable design patterns.
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures using Docker, Azure, and container orchestration.
  • DOE Q security clearance required to start or DOW equivalent.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Advanced degree or formal training in information systems engineering, software architecture, or related fields.
  • Solid understanding of web development patterns (MVC, multi-tier) to build secure, scalable systems.
  • Skilled in configuration management tools like GitLab, supporting continuous integration and deployment.
  • Knowledge of SDLC, Agile/Lean methods, and software testing for quality delivery.
  • Excellent communication, able to explain technical concepts clearly and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams on complex projects and influencing organizational strategy.
  • Proven track record of developing strategic, cost-effective solutions that align with long-term mission goals.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven technologies for content discoverability, user engagement, and enterprise search.
  • Experience with cloud computing architectures and their application to mission-critical systems.
  • Ability to innovate and implement new architectural methods and processes that enhance system performance, security, and usability.
  • Experience managing digital content ecosystems aligned with enterprise business needs.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills in guiding technical teams and architectural best practices.

About Our Team

Corporate Web Design and Development provides access to searchable corporate content to assist the Sandia workforce in finding the information they need to perform their jobs. We offer internal and external web design and development services and web information technologies for Sandia. Our team considers the necessary content management and delivery vehicles needed to attain customer business goals, including web content, search, and communication products.

We provide a high-quality, uniform, cost-effective web presence (both internal and external) to Sandia. Our work includes consulting and support for all aspects of web development, such as systems analysis and design, user interface and experience design, workflow support, programming, project leadership, and product user training.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
