Plans, directs, and oversees team members in the day-to-day operations of the Deli and Bakery departments. Serves as a mentor and coach, fostering team engagement, development, and accountability. Leads the execution of strategies that enhance customer service, ensure fresh, high-quality products, and drive department sales through efficient service and strong production planning. Maintains department conditions and food safety standards with a focus on peak shopping hours, product presentation, and compliance with Meijer brand and operational standards.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Ensures a positive Meijer brand experience by delivering and modeling courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
  • Leads staffing, selection, and hiring efforts to meet operational and service needs within the Deli and Bakery departments.
  • Promotes succession planning by identifying development opportunities, supporting career paths, and participating in promotion and advancement decisions.
  • Provides performance feedback, documents corrective actions, and partners with leadership on disciplinary decisions, up to and including termination.
  • Owns department financial performance, including sales, labor, and shrink, while executing strategies to drive profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Models Truly Human Service by setting expectations for fast, friendly, and accurate service at all times.
  • Communicates and reinforces Meijer service initiatives and expectations during daily huddles, team meetings, and oneonone conversations.
  • Mentors, coaches, and develops team members to exceed customer service goals, execute production plans, and maintain department conditions to Meijer standards.
  • Ensures all team members are properly trained, certified, and compliant with food safety, operational, and company training requirements.
  • Maintains a strong presence on the sales floor, engaging with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service and department execution.
  • Promotes a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment, holding team members accountable to safety and compliance standards.
  • Demonstrates reliable and consistent attendance to support department leadership and business needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support store and department operations.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • High school diploma or its equivalent required.
  • 2-3 years of related retail experience.
  • One year of management experience.
  • Rotational assignments in other areas of the store such as meat, bakery, produce and deli; also customer service and product flow experience is helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to team members in the organization in a way that provides clear and precise direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and by addressing root cause issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions. Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization including SDITs, team members in hourly positions and team leaders.
  • Successful completion of all required certifications.
