Elmhurst University invites applications for a Professional-Track Assistant Professor in Finance in the School of Business. This is a full-time, teaching-centered faculty position for an educator committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate business education, student engagement, and curricular innovation.

The successful candidate will teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate finance courses as well as graduate finance courses. While the primary emphasis of the position is teaching, mentoring, and program contribution, faculty in this role are also expected to remain active in scholarly activity and/or professional development appropriate to a professional-track appointment and consistent with growth and promotion.

The School of Business is integrating AI into the curriculum, and we welcome candidates who can thoughtfully incorporate AI tools-especially for research and analytical purposes-into finance teaching. Candidates who can also teach selected economics and/or accounting courses and/or who bring substantial corporate or relevant professional experience will be especially attractive.

Position Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000. This is the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget.

Responsibilities
  • Teaches undergraduate and graduate finance courses, including introductory and upper-level offerings.
  • Delivers high-quality, student-centered instruction in an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
  • Uses instructional technologies effectively, including the learning management system.
  • Incorporates relevant innovation, including AI tools, into teaching and learning.
  • Advises and mentors students.
  • Contributes to curriculum development and program improvement.
  • Remains active in scholarly activity and/or professional development appropriate to the role.
  • Maintains flexibility with teaching schedules, modalities, and course assignments consistent with program needs.
  • Attends and participates in School of Business and University meetings, events, and faculty activities.
  • Contributes to shared governance, committee work, and other services appropriate to a professional-track appointment.
  • Supports initiatives related to curricular innovation, experiential learning, and AI integration across the business curriculum.
  • Collaborates with colleagues on assessment, program development, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in finance or an MBA with a concentration in Finance.
  • Demonstrated potential for or record of effective teaching in finance at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.
  • Ability to use instructional technologies effectively in support of teaching and student learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Ability to teach economics and/or accounting in addition to finance.
  • Significant corporate or other relevant professional experience.
  • Familiarity with incorporating AI tools into finance or business instruction.
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly activity and/or professional development.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in an indoor setting with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Required abilities include speaking and hearing for in-person and virtual communication, using close and distance vision when reading documents or viewing screens, and performing tasks with repetitive fine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending, carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
