What Your Job Will Be Like

Sandia National Laboratories Technical Library is seeking a talented Technical Librarian for an exciting role managing and optimizing library systems, improving item discovery, and developing collections. We are looking for a collaborative, service-oriented, self-starter with a passion for library systems and collections, an interest in making data and documents findable, and the ability to work with a variety of people.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Partner with IT on a system migration from our current ILS Horizon to Koha
- Develop library collections in quantum computing, material science, popular science, and emerging areas of innovation at Sandia
- Catalog newly digitized documents
- Explore emerging technologies to expand the librarys resource and discovery services
- Participate as an embedded librarian in a Lab-wide AI initiative
- Assist Sandia researchers with tracking down historical information
- Provide consultations to researchers on document and data management projects
- Suggest and lead a new project to improve library services

Salary Range

$87,400 - $168,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelors degree in library and information science or relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Plus, five years or more years of directly related experience as a professional librarian that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Equivalent experience in lieu of degree must be directly related experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Demonstrated experience working with integrated library systems.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in library and discovery systems.
  • Experience with collection development.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Energy Q clearance .
Qualifications We Desire

  • ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
  • Strong patron service orientation, excellent communications skills, and the ability to work with researchers
  • Experience with Horizon and/or Koha ILS systems. Experience leading system migrations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with metadata schemas and repositories
  • Knowledge of data management, ontology development, Python, and/or SQL
  • Experience cataloging print and digital objects
  • Experience working in a scientific or national security research environment
  • Experience in designing and delivering library instruction sessions, workshops, and/or presentations
  • Active Q Clearance
About Our Team

The Technical Library provides information services and resources that support the research needs of the engineers, scientists, and staff of Sandia National Laboratories. The library houses a robust print and electronic resources collection focused on engineering and science, and we support researchers working on some of the country's most challenging questions.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
