Continuously observes, documents, and reports the cardiac rhythm status of patients monitored by telemetry. Performs general clerical duties by accurately preparing, compiling and maintaining the records for the Unit. Serves as the communication center for the nursing unit. Maintains cleanliness and order of the nursing station. Assists with reports and chart audits as assigned. Precepts and orients new Monitor Technicians and Registered Nurses to the telemetry monitors and protocols.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent 2. Completion of Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation class or completed upon hire. 3. Current CPR PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Graduate of Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program EXPERIENCE: 1. Previous experience observing cardiac monitors, documenting and analyzing rhythm strips, and recognizing dysrhythmias and ST&T wave changes 2. Previous clerical experience CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Observes cardiac monitors, documents and analyzes rhythm strips. Recognize dysrhythmias and ST&T wave changes. Notifies appropriate nurse of any changes. 2. Assists with the initial placement of telemetry leads as needed. 3. Greets new patients and their families; assisting new patients to their room and bed as needed. Greets and assists visitors, chaplains, volunteers, etc. as necessary. 4. Initiates and maintains daily telemetry charges. Responsible for care and location of all the telemetry transmitters 5. Accurately transcribes physicians' orders according to hospital policy. Alerts nursing staff of new or urgent orders promptly 6. Completes clerical work on admissions, transfers, discharges and prepares discharge charts to be taken to the Health Information Department 7. Maintains charts during all phases of a patient's hospital stay, including replenishing forms. 8. Forwards physician's order sheet to pharmacy noting needed medications 9. Completes orders accurately and forwards to departments via order communications, (Lab, X-ray, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Dietary and Maintenance) and with requisitions as needed. 10. Answers incoming telephone calls in a courteous professional manner identifying the unit and self 11. Assists with the admission of new patients. 12. Obtains needed supplies from SPD, Purchasing, Pharmacy, lab and Linen as needed; assists in location of equipment and supplies 13. Serves as the communication center for the nursing unit by answering telephones, initiating calls and relaying communications. Answers telephones promptly and courteously and identifying self by name and title 14. Assists with orientation of new personnel as assigned, regarding: monitors, unit protocols, telemetry, stock levels and unit charges. 15. Assists in quality assurance projects concerning telemetry and cardiac monitoring.
