POSITION SCOPE

The Certified Welding Inspector is responsible for conducting welder training, performing welder certifications, inspecting weld quality, and ensuring all welding processes meet AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code standards. This role oversees welding quality across the organization, provides hands-on instruction, and ensures welders maintain the highest level of technical proficiency. The Certified Weld Instructor will work closely with fabrication, maintenance, and supervisory teams to uphold quality, safety, and compliance standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES



  • Train welding personnel in proper welding techniques, safety procedures, and code compliance.
  • Conduct welder performance qualification tests and certify welders in accordance with AWS D1.1
  • Maintain welder qualification records and certification documentation.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employee welding skills through structured training programs.
  • Perform visual weld inspections (VT) and oversee NDT coordination when required.
  • Certify welds and ensure all welded components meet AWS D1.1 and internal quality standards.
  • Prepare and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
  • Audit welding processes to ensure compliance with code requirements and company procedures.
  • Identify weld defects, determine corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with project planning, workload prioritization, and coordination of welding-related tasks.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, plans, and material specifications.
  • Support fabrication and repair activities by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting welding issues.
  • Participate in safety meetings and enforce company safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records related to inspections, repairs, certifications, and quality documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to welders and fabrication teams.
  • Conduct performance evaluations related to welding competencies.
  • Address welding-related concerns, resolve quality issues, and support problemsolving efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety guidelines, and performance expectations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe).
  • AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of welding experience, including instruction or supervisory responsibilities, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, and work in various physical positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment and travel as needed.
