Summer Intern - Mechanical Engineer

About the Role:
As an intern within a functional engineering team, you will have an opportunity to perform concept modeling, engineering and design support for the development, delivery, and sustainment of sub-systems and components managed by the Mechanisms & Actuation team. This team is responsible for battery integration components, lighting, driver controls, doors & hatches, mechanisms (e.g., latches, hinges, etc.) and seating. Additionally, the role may require design support of adjacent modules including, but not limited to, stowage, mounting, and guards. This functional engineering team supports the entire portfolio of products and programs within GDLS ranging from new technology demonstrations to pre-production development and ultimately full-scale vehicle production.

Hybrid or Onsite:
* Due to the nature of the work, this role requires on-site presence up to 100%.

Qualifications / What You Must Have:
* Actively pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
* Familiarity with interacting with 3D CAD software. Siemens NX and/or Creo preferred.
* Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 applications.
* Reliable transportation.
* Ability to travel up to 10% to other facilities and military installations if needed.

Additional Information:
* Office location is based in Sterling Heights, MI. This is for an on-site, non-remote position.
* GDLS utilizes a 9/80 work schedule. This schedule provides employees with every other Friday off.
* The Mechanical Design Engineer may be required to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles.
