  • Troubleshooting equipment and tooling
  • Performing preventative maintenance
  • Repairing or replacing worn parts
What You'll Do:
  • Check coil lot numbers, remove mill tickets, and cut bands or damaged wraps as needed
  • Inspect coils for defects such as welds, laminations, or damaged edges; notify mechanic/supervisor of excessive defects
  • Place coils on the payoff spindle, thread the strip, and align it on the feed table
  • Operate the feedin and unwinding unit, maintaining continuous strip feeding
  • Make nonmechanical running adjustments (centering strip, tension adjustments)
  • Tend the splice unit and complete splicing before the accumulator empties
  • Observe strip during production for defects that could affect coating or material usage
Production Line Support
  • Work closely with the coilcoating production mechanic
  • Assist with threading the line, equipment startups, shutdowns, and clearing jams
  • Lubricate equipment and service the air tech lubricator
  • Monitor the pinhole detector and report malfunctions
Coating & Quality Control
  • Assist with changing coating applicator and pickup rolls
  • Help wash coater rolls
  • Keep simple production records
  • Monitor the strip cooling tank, adjust water flow, and inspect coated materials for defects
  • Maintain waxer equipment and adjust for correct wax application
Coil Finishing
  • Remove defective wraps from completed coils
  • Cut samples for required quality checks and maintain retains (first pass does not require retain)
  • Apply tape, mark identification, complete paperwork, and attach a sevenpart ticket
  • Notify mechanic/supervisor of any quality defects identified during testing
Line StartUp & Speed Control
  • Ensure area is clear before starting equipment
  • Use console controls to start the line, bring it to speed, and maintain strip tension
  • Cut strip to achieve coil size specifications
  • Remove finished coils from the rewind mandrel to the coil carrier
We Need You to Have:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to operate and maintain Silgan canmaking lines, including performing and documenting quality checks
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Frequent standing and walking; minimal sitting
  • Regular handling of 6-50 lbs; occasional 51-100 lbs with assistance
  • Rare handling of items over 100 lbs (team lift or mechanical aid required)
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, balancing, grasping, and fine manipulation
  • Repetitive assembly and repair tasks
  • Occasional stair or ladder climbing
  • Exposure to machinery, vibration, and elevated noise
  • Exposure to heat, cold, humidity, dust, fumes, and other manufacturing conditions
