What You'll Do:
- Check coil lot numbers, remove mill tickets, and cut bands or damaged wraps as needed
- Inspect coils for defects such as welds, laminations, or damaged edges; notify mechanic/supervisor of excessive defects
- Place coils on the payoff spindle, thread the strip, and align it on the feed table
- Operate the feedin and unwinding unit, maintaining continuous strip feeding
- Make nonmechanical running adjustments (centering strip, tension adjustments)
- Tend the splice unit and complete splicing before the accumulator empties
- Observe strip during production for defects that could affect coating or material usage
Production Line Support
- Work closely with the coilcoating production mechanic
- Assist with threading the line, equipment startups, shutdowns, and clearing jams
- Lubricate equipment and service the air tech lubricator
- Monitor the pinhole detector and report malfunctions
Coating & Quality Control
- Assist with changing coating applicator and pickup rolls
- Help wash coater rolls
- Keep simple production records
- Monitor the strip cooling tank, adjust water flow, and inspect coated materials for defects
- Maintain waxer equipment and adjust for correct wax application
Coil Finishing
- Remove defective wraps from completed coils
- Cut samples for required quality checks and maintain retains (first pass does not require retain)
- Apply tape, mark identification, complete paperwork, and attach a sevenpart ticket
- Notify mechanic/supervisor of any quality defects identified during testing
Line StartUp & Speed Control
- Ensure area is clear before starting equipment
- Use console controls to start the line, bring it to speed, and maintain strip tension
- Cut strip to achieve coil size specifications
- Remove finished coils from the rewind mandrel to the coil carrier
We Need You to Have:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Willingness to operate and maintain Silgan canmaking lines, including performing and documenting quality checks
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Frequent standing and walking; minimal sitting
- Regular handling of 6-50 lbs; occasional 51-100 lbs with assistance
- Rare handling of items over 100 lbs (team lift or mechanical aid required)
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, balancing, grasping, and fine manipulation
- Repetitive assembly and repair tasks
- Occasional stair or ladder climbing
- Exposure to machinery, vibration, and elevated noise
- Exposure to heat, cold, humidity, dust, fumes, and other manufacturing conditions
