Job Description

Job Summary

Follow script for purchasing assistant assigned duties including transfer and PO entry. Responsible for turns purchasing of assigned grocery and packaged items using existing procedures and tools. Responsible for purchase order accuracy, including correct items and costs. Responsible for inventory management of assigned items using provided and/or self generated inventory counts. Achieves or exceeds budgeted service level and spoilage. Helps to identify and reconcile inventory discrepancies. Approves received purchase orders for vendor payment. Coordinates activities with other buyers under the direction of the procurement manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (any combination of the following job duties):

  • Use and maintain existing or new purchasing tools.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels.
  • Knows relevant purchasing cycle for each item purchased.
  • Monitors and manages vendor performance.
  • Support established logistical procedures to facilitate product arrival.
  • Adhere to Approved Supplier Requirements in onboarding and continuing of vendors.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels to ensure customer order fulfillment while minimizing shrink/spoilage.
  • Knows relevant purchasing cycle for each item purchased.
  • Timely communication of potential inventory issues to Procurement Manager and Sales.
  • Efficient procurement practices when having to source local product, may include driving to vendor locations to pick up product.
  • All employees are responsible for food safety and are expected to notify the appropriate manager, supervisor, or key personnel if they witness any compromise to food safety or food quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

  • Purchasing experience desired but not required.
  • Must have a valid AK driver's license and be able to pass our nonfleet driving requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Be able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and able to accomplish team objectives.
  • Candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with computer competency, including Excel, Word, & Outlook
  • Education requirements: High School
  • PC skills: Excel, 10 key, Power Enterprise
  • Strong math & writing skills required to quickly multiply & add cases/pallets & calculate product cost, market and margin.
  • Ability to observe and follow proper safety procedures, and a willingness to report potentially unsafe conditions
