Job Summary:
Fabick Cat is seeking a highly skilled Senior AI Engineer / Architect to design, build, and scale AI-powered solutions across the enterprise. This role is a hands-on technical leader responsible for translating AI strategy into production-ready systems, automations, and reusable AI services.
The Senior AI Engineer / Architect plays a critical role in Fabick Cat's evolution toward an AI-enabled enterprise by architecting and delivering agentic AI systems, AI-powered automations, and data-driven services that enhance operational efficiency and business performance. This position works closely with the AI Agentic Manager, business leaders, and IT teams to ensure AI solutions are secure, scalable, ethical, and aligned with Fabick Cat's strategic objectives, Caterpillar's digital vision, and our commitment to safety and excellence.

Responsibilities:

AI Architecture, Strategy & Delivery
*Design, build, and maintain Fabick Cat's enterprise AI architecture, including agentic AI systems, orchestration frameworks, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, AI-powered APIs, and intelligent automation platforms.
*Partner closely with the AI Agentic Manager to define AI technical strategy, architectural direction, and roadmap alignment.
*Establish and evolve reference architectures, reusable patterns, and technical standards for AI development and deployment.
*Evaluate, recommend, and implement AI tools, platforms, and vendors in alignment with enterprise standards and Caterpillar Digital initiatives.
*Ensure all AI solutions adhere to data security, compliance, ethical standards, and governance frameworks.

Hands-On Engineering, Automation & AI
*Design, build, deploy, and maintain production-grade AI solutions including AI agents, copilots, AI-enabled APIs, and shared AI services.
*Develop reusable AI capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple business units.
*Design and implement intelligent automations and workflow orchestration using AI, Power Automate, RPA tools, and event-driven architectures.
*Integrate AI solutions with enterprise platforms such as ERP, CRM, HRIS, M365, Salesforce, DBS, and other internal systems.
*Implement monitoring, logging, error handling, and performance optimization to ensure reliability and scalability.
*Lead and support the transition of AI initiatives from proof-of-concept to secure, scalable production deployments.

Collaboration, Mentorship & User Enablement
*Serve as a technical mentor to junior AI engineers, providing guidance on architecture, engineering best practices, and problem-solving.
*Review designs, code, and implementations to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with standards.
*Partner with business stakeholders to translate operational needs into effective AI solutions that deliver measurable value.
*Support user enablement by contributing to training materials, technical documentation, and best practices that help users effectively adopt and trust AI solutions.
*Collaborate with enablement and change management resources to ensure AI tools are usable, supported, and adopted across the organization.
*Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and responsible AI use.
Requirements
Requirements


*Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
*5+ years of experience delivering secure, scalable enterprise software, automation, or platform solutions in production environments.
*Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating production-grade AI solutions within complex enterprise systems.
*Strong understanding of agentic AI architectures, including orchestration, tool and function calling, MCP-style interfaces, and RAG patterns.
*Hands-on experience with large language models and enterprise generative AI platforms such as Azure OpenAI or equivalent services.
*Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C# for building APIs and AI-enabled services.
*Experience implementing cloud-based AI solutions, preferably on Microsoft Azure, with secure integration and operational oversight.
*Strong knowledge of AI security, data governance, responsible AI practices, and effective communication with technical and business stakeholders.

* Ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, bend and stoop to perform the essential functions of this job.
* Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
* Strong verbal and non-verbal communication daily.
