The Bulk Gas Systems Engineer is responsible for managing equipment and technologies for bulk industrial gas systems installed at customer locations (O2, N2, Ar, CO2, N2O, and Helium). Responsible for component specifications, system design, and installation practices, as well as operating and maintenance procedures associated with each product line.

  • Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Provides engineering and technical support for bulk industrial gas project designs, calculations, equipment specifications, electrical and layout drawings, etc.

  • Ensures design and installation practices are in compliance with all applicable company, federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Provides technical support to Airgas Field Service Personnel, Airgas Bulk Gas Specialists and Account Managers, external customers and other internal stakeholders as needed during planning, installation, and system start up.

  • Responsible for overall project ownership of all bulk gas installations within the region.

  • Act as liaison between Airgas and Vendors to maintain equipment specifications, quality, design changes, and new applications.

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating installation standards and maintenance schedules for the bulk industrial gas equipment covered in the procedures manual.

  • Responsible for establishing documentation and standards including P&ID's, layouts, operating procedures, and manuals.

  • Performs periodic audits of installations to ensure compliance with Airgas standards and continuous improvement.

  • Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics and process flow diagrams.

  • Performs SME review and approval for applicable management of change (MOC) requests as needed.

  • Participates in applicable working committees as needed.

  • Identifies and implements efficiencies to designs and operations.

  • Share knowledge and expertise with internal and external customers.

  • Must be able to proactively collaborate with multiple work groups within the Airgas organization.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

  • Three to five years experience in cryogenic industrial or industrial gas applications, or similar fields.

Required Length and Type of Experience

  • Working knowledge of bulk industrial gas systems.

  • Direct experience with bulk industrial installations or related processes is helpful.

  • Experience with industrial gas equipment (cryogenic vessels, pumps, vaporizers, piping, valves, regulators, etc.) preferred.

  • Experience with AutoCad LT for creating design P&ID's and layout drawings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's)

  • Ability to sizing pipe and pressure relief devices required.

  • Working knowledge of applicable construction codes including: National Electrical Code, NFPA, International Fire Code, Uniform Building Code, OSHA, Life Safety codes, ASME standards, and CGA standards.

  • Working knowledge of ISA symbology, as required for P&ID's and electrical one line diagrams.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work and work with multiple contractors as needed..

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including facilitation and presentation skills.

  • Ability to coach and develop others.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Google suite
