As a Residential Hall Manager on the Volker campus, you'll bring that mission to life by cultivating an inclusive, engaged, and caring residential community.

Role Overview

The Residential Hall Manager is a live-on professional who supervises and coordinates the daily operations of a residential facility and a master-leased property. You will lead student staff, guide community standards, respond to student needs and crises, and drive educational programming that supports learning, engagement, and belonging.

Characteristic Duties

  • Lead and develop a high performing team comprised of nine (9) student staff and one (1) Graduate Professional Assistant.
  • Facilitate learning initiatives in the facilities to ensure residential areas are conducive for high academic achievement.
  • Interact, counsel, and advise students and the student government council.
  • In collaboration with the graduate Desk Manager, coordinate approximately 20 welcome desk student employees, scheduling, and time approval.
  • Oversee keys, work order satisfaction, and cleaning coordination to maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Uphold community standards by interpreting, explaining, and enforcing departmental guidelines and University policies.
  • Partner closely with Human Resources when issues involve employee conduct, policy interpretation, or elevated personnel concerns, ensuring consistency, fairness, and alignment with University procedures.
  • Provide crisis management support and intervention, which may be required on weekends, at night, etc.
  • Serve on an on-call duty rotation.
  • Respond to additional emergency situations as necessary, in coordination with UMKC Police when needed.
  • Coordinate and prepare administrative reports.
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and University committees, fostering collaboration.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: Associate Director of Residential Life
  • Supervises: Student staff and graduate staff
Shift

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with regular evening and weekend responsibilities to support programs, community needs, and duty coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree in counseling, higher education, student personnel social work, or related fields is preferred.

Experience living in a residence hall, including residence hall staff experience and/or working with summer conference programs.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,915.20 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.

This is a live-on position designed to enhance your connection to the community you lead and support. The Resident Hall Manager must reside on-campus throughout the term of their appointment.
