The Opportunity

Munich Re Specialty North America is seeking an experienced and strategic Engagement Manager for our Insurance Programs Underwriting unit, reporting to the Head of Service Delivery & Transformation. This critical role will drive the development and implementation of our Delegated Authority and Digital Underwriting strategy, leveraging expertise in program management, cross-functional team leadership, and industry knowledge to deliver transformative results.

The Engagement Manager will provide visionary leadership, guiding the organization through complex strategic initiatives, and ensuring seamless collaboration across multiple stakeholders, including Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, Analytics, Product Development, Finance and
Operations. The successful candidate will have deep experience leading cross-functional teams and large, complex strategic programs. They will need to have the relevant foundation and industry knowledge to develop their own process, drive their work, and orchestrate the actions of others without the need for step-by-step instructions. This role is critical to the success of MRS-NA's Insurance Programs underwriting strategy and will contribute to a cross-functional team that has a direct impact on the operating and financial results of the organization.

Responsibilities

In this position you will:

  • Accountable for overall engagement process for new products, new delegated authority and digital partners, capabilities and additional transformation activities, from initialization through go-live
  • Develop and execute comprehensive engagement strategies for new products, capabilities, and transformation initiatives, from conceptualization to post-deployment, aligning with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, influencing outcomes and facilitating communication across diverse stakeholders, including Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, Analytics, Product Development, Finance and Operations, as well as collaboration with external partners, such as Managing General Agents and/or Brokers, to drive business results.
  • Lead large-scale, complex programs, cross-functional project initiation phases to determine and document scope, effort, timeline, cost, dependencies, and alternatives as well as proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Establish or revise operational metrics, ensuring continuous improvement and optimal execution of new opportunities or material changes in existing portfolios.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, driving the development of new products, services, and business models, while ensuring effective change management and minimal disruption to existing operations. Proactively step-in to action critical needs as they arise throughout the engagement lifecycle
  • Engage with appropriate Business teams to confirm priorities, assist Product Owners with high level prioritization of Product Backlog Items, implement, and maintain portfolio plans, ensuring strategic alignment to product roadmaps.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and direction to Operations members, Business Analysts, and Project Managers, promoting growth and expertise within the team.
  • Willing to travel as required, up to 25%, primarily New York, NY, Princeton, NJ and Philadelphia, PA

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess the following experience/skills/qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (required), master's degree (preferred)
  • 12+ years of experience in Program Management, Strategic Management area or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years in the insurance industry
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale, complex initiatives, with a focus on transformation, innovation, and business growth
  • Proven track record managing off-track projects back to on-track through communication and action mitigating.
  • Deep understanding of the insurance industry, including market trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
  • A self-motivated individual able to work with varying organizational and geographic styles to the end goal of unifying and standardizing the delivery culture and capability
  • Established reputation as a strategic leader, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization, driving business outcomes and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor high-performing teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and growth. Experience with Agile frameworks, such as Scrum or Kanban, and the ability to apply these principles to drive business agility and responsiveness.
  • Ability to think strategically, developing and executing plans that drive business outcomes, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experience by applying Lean Six Sigma or similar capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the organization.

The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Philadelphia (PA), Princeton (NJ), and New York City (NY). The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $144,600-$230,700, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the NYC job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
