The Specialist Controls Engineer is responsible for all system control aspects of our Industrial Ground Support Equipment. You will design, program, and document the electrical control systems that power our diesel and facility-driven units. A successful candidate will balance independent design work-creating the "blueprints" for our hardware-with cross-functional collaboration to resolve technical issues for management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Systems Design & Architecture

  • Architect electrical and control systems for new product development (NPD) and prototyping, ensuring scalable and robust designs.
  • Define control system logic and architecture by applying advanced control theories to meet specific machine performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with product engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall machine design.

Software & Programming

  • Develop, program, and maintain unit controls for PLCs and HMIs, utilizing the CoDeSys development environment (IEC 61131-3).
  • Implement and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols, specifically CAN BUS (J1939) and Modbus TCP, to ensure reliable component-to-system data flow.

Testing, Validation & Support

  • Create comprehensive test plans and "First Power-Up" instructional sets for newly developed products.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership during first-article start-ups, working closely with the factory testing team and supporting early production runs.
  • Generate and maintain detailed technical documentation, including wiring schematics and software revision histories.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

* ISO 9001: establish standards, procedures and other documents in accordance with ISO 9001.

* BSEE or better preferred.

* Three years' experience with industrial type equipment and their control systems.

* Ability to read mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic circuit diagrams, and understand their functions from the diagram.

* Capable of schematic layout, wiring sizing, and control cabinet layouts.

* AC motors control experience, both electromechanical and using VFD type controls preferred

* Previous PLC programming experience preferred, especially in an IEC 61131-3 compliant programming environment (e.g. CoDeSys)

* Working knowledge of structured text, function block programming

* Familiarity of working within UL, NEC, and CE compliance design rules.

* Automotive type wiring harness design, and layout experience is a plus.

* Ability to utilize Microsoft Office to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations as needed to fulfill role.
