Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist Coordinator reports to and is accountable to the Respiratory Manager/Director. Oversees daily respiratory care operations, supports clinical staff, ensures high quality patient care, and serves as a liaison between respiratory therapy teams, nursing units, and hospital leadership. This role combines advanced clinical practice with administrative responsibilities, quality improvement, and staff development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced respiratory care to patients across all acuity levels.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for respiratory therapists, nurses, and physicians.
  • Assist with complex procedures such as ventilator management, airway care, and emergency response.
  • Ensure adherence to evidence based respiratory care protocols.
  • Oversee daily staffing assignments and workload distribution.
  • Coordinate respiratory therapy services across units (ICU, ED, PCU, MSO, etc.).
  • Monitor equipment availability, functionality, and maintenance needs.
  • Support implementation of new technologies, protocols, and clinical initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, DNV).
  • Monitors Quality Assurance of the ABG Lab.
  • Participates in audits, quality improvement projects, and performance metrics tracking.
  • Review documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and competency assessments for respiratory therapy staff.
  • Assists with onboarding new hires and students.
  • Lead in-service education on new equipment, procedures, or clinical guidelines.
  • Act as a liaison between respiratory therapy, nursing, physicians, and administration.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and committees.
  • Communicate workflow updates, policy changes, and clinical expectations to staff.

Other information:

Required:

* Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) status as administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

* Current North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB).

* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

* Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Preferred:

* Bachelor's degree required within 3 years of hire. Prefer candidate with bachelor's degree upon hire

* Minimum of 2-5 years of clinical experience in respiratory care
