DESCRIPTION

The Behavioral Health Counselor (provider) provides all aspects of psychosocial, mental, and behavioral health services, including primarily brief short-term individual and group therapy, diagnostic evaluations, assessments, treatment planning, care coordination, and case management.

The provider works closely with clinical and administrative leadership to improve access to care and foster collaboration across UCSD Health departments and programs. This role also oversees case management procedures and coordination to ensure patients are effectively connected to psychosocial and community resources. Additionally, the provider serves as liaison with other providers in primary care as well as in other departments, and participates as a key member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in a related mental health area(i.e., psychology, social work, marriage/family therapy).

  • A valid California license as a mental health provider (Psychologist, LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC) in good standing.

  • A minimum of two (2) years post Master's Degree experience.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.

  • Thorough knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights.

  • Ability to evaluate the progress of the therapeutic approach and modify as necessary.

  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

  • Must have highly effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with a diverse client group.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications/systems used in behavioral health settings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

  • Two (2+) or more years of experience in integrated behavioral health in primary care settings.

  • Training and experience in providing marital and/or family therapy.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
