| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Finance and Operations Information Technology Department provides innovative, and responsive technology services to the University's business units in support of the University's mission of teaching, research, and public service. The department strives to provide technology to improve business processes and communication, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction. |
| Position Summary |
INTERNAL ONLY: Internal posting for permanent, time-limited, layoff priority employees of UNC-Chapel Hill, and temporary employees hired directly by UNC-Chapel Hill only.
The Technology Support Analyst-Advanced position provides both routine and non-routine technical support to end users and business units supported by
SCE-IT, including support of hardware, networking, and a wide range of technology applications. This role is also responsible for evaluating and implementing tools, services, and processes that enhance customer IT systems.
This position uses broad technical knowledge to effectively support end users and clients. Responsibilities include meeting and coordinating with campus groups to leverage collaboration, plan for potential IT initiatives, assess new technologies, provide new solutions, improve management of existing systems, and participate in the design and implementation of long term strategies for customized system functionality. The position also includes ongoing education and training on new systems, as well as testing, evaluating, and demonstrating to leadership whether new technology will provide improvement.
Additionally, the Analyst leverages strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with a broad range of end users and clients. The Analyst provides wide ranging support across many technologies or specialized support within a specific area, while overseeing projects of varying size. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, computer Technology Integration, Networking Technology, or related area and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or
- Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level required an additional one year of experience.
- Advanced level required an additional two years of experience. |
| Management Preferences |
-Experience planning, coordinating, and leading technical projects.
-Experience managing specialized business systems or network connected devices, such as building access controls, point-of-sale units, or similar operational hardware.
-Experience implementing workstation or network processes to protect sensitive data, including encryption and compliance with organizational information security policies.
-Experience with automation or scripting tools used for process improvement, such as workflow automation, report generation, or system monitoring tasks.
-Experience using data analysis or reporting tools to identify trends, diagnose issues, or support operational decision making. |
| Required Licenses/Certifications |
Valid NC Driver's License or ability to obtain prior to start date. |
| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
-Ability to travel frequently to the
UNC-Chapel Hill campus and within the Town of Chapel Hill. This includes pedestrian travel and/or transporting equipment, which requires a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
-Ability to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, use hand tools and power tools, and perform tasks on ladders or in confined spaces, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical mobility and strong motor skills are necessary for equipment installation and maintenance.
-Ability to adhere to safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats, full-length pants, and closed toe shoes. Ability to recognize colors and shapes to identify equipment components, labels, and safety indicators.
-Ability to perform duties in various service call locations, including but not limited to construction or renovation zones, hospital premises, chemical or radiation storage facilities, warehouse storage zones, and high traffic parking areas.
-As a designated mandatory (emergency) employee, the employee is expected to support critical operations during emergencies, which may require significant physical effort depending on the nature of the emergency. Occasional outdoor work or travel in adverse weather conditions may be required due to equipment locations and criticality of certain equipment. |
