Description

The Department of Neurobiology is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support innovative research examining the neural mechanisms of animal social behavior in health and disease. The incumbent will assist with a range of laboratory procedures, including behavioral testing, stereotaxic surgeries, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, quantitative image analysis, and behavioral annotation, while also contributing to shared laboratory operations such as inventory management, supply ordering, preparation of laboratory solutions, and general lab maintenance. This role offers hands-on experience in a collaborative neuroscience research environment and is ideal for candidates interested in building practical research skills.

Hourly range: $23.12-$27.20

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to maintain a laboratory notebook with documentation of experiments and results
  • Ability to rigorously follow laboratory protocols
    Required
    Proficiency in performing general lab maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety measures in handling and disposal of laboratory waste Required
    Skill in organization and ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate and maintain notes in English
  • Ability to work with Macintosh and PC operating systems
  • Working knowledge of major software applications including Microsoft Office (MS Word,
    Excel, PowerPoint), graphics programs (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator), web search
    engines (e.g. PubMed), reference managers (Endnote) and e-mail
    Required
    Skill in preparing standard laboratory solutions, buffers and histological reagents
Preferred:
  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Neuroscience, or related with
    laboratory coursework.
  • Skill in animal behavior testing, stereotaxic surgery, and histology
  • Knowledge of regulations for proper animal care and euthanasia
