Location: 4329 Green Road, Hiland Hills, OH 44128

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30p; includes one weekly virtual evening session and one session per month on weekends.
FLSA: Non-Exempt

VGS is a highly acclaimed, successful, private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) vocational rehabilitation agency with over 135 years of dedicated experience serving persons with disabilities or other barriers to employment. We are currently hiring an Instructor for the Beyond the Essentials of Life Skills Program that will be responsible for performing the following job duties.


Summary: Beyond the Essentials of Life Skills is an immersive training experience for individuals with developmental disabilities designed to enhance independent living abilities within a classroom, lab, and home environment. The intent is to focus on meeting the identified need of supporting people to learn the skills, knowledge, and experience that is necessary to transition to a more independent style of living. Through the duration of Beyond the Essentials of Life Skills, people will learn to consistently transfer these skills between all three environments. This is a one-year contract position.





  • Attend trainings and informational meetings with the Learn4Independence community in order to provide feedback and growth for the program.



  • Implement the Beyond Life Skills curriculum and with the Project Manager's input modify content to meet individual needs.





  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager to determine growth and direction of the program.





  • Work with the Support Administrators and the student's team to identify goals for the program and ensure the student has support for next steps following graduation.



  • Using VGS' web based case management system, complete documentation of demographic information, service progress and annual goals.



  • Ensure all required paperwork (e.g., monthly reports, detailed case notes) is completed and filed promptly according to VGS and regulatory policies.





  • Work with the Project Manager to keep and maintain documentation for students that measures the progress of those goals.





  • Provide insight into pre and post assessments to help Cuyahoga DD leadership staff determine eligibility and program success.



  • Ensure and advocate for the rights of the individual, respect differences, and document/report Unusual/Major Unusual Incidents (UIR/MUIR) to prioritize participant health and safety.



  • Maintain required DODD and VGS annual trainings (e.g., CPR/First Aid), including a minimum of 15 hours of professional development per year.



  • Attend all required VGS staff meetings, maintain regular attendance, and ensure a professional and positive work atmosphere with all stakeholders.



  • Regular attendance is required.



Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field preferred, plus 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Proven experience working directly with the developmental disabilities (DD) population.


  • Must maintain Medicaid requirements including passing a BCI and FBI checks, passing ARCS checks, and completing all required trainings.


  • Valid Driver's License with less than 6 points.


  • Current individual auto insurance coverage.


  • Ability and willingness to transport participants in a personal vehicle.


  • Trained in CPR and basic First Aid techniques.


  • Demonstrated or willingness to receive training for medication administration (medication passing) and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) skills.


  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.


  • Must be physically able to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, as required by the essential functions of the role.
