Description

Responsible for managing the operational activities for the construction/contracting company including planning, budgeting, estimating and equipment while ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective operational excellence. Under the direction of the President, supports business development and growth strategies to obtain maximum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits. Serves as a company representative to the community and supports the regional and corporate initiatives as needed. Works closely with safety, environmental and human resources team leaders to develop a safe and great place to work environment that attracts and retains employees.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Five or more years of field operations experience.
  • Experience working and managing complex projects.
  • Proficient knowledge in computer skills and computer software relative to construction industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, lead and mentor others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including making presentations.
  • Experience in training, developing and accessing company personnel.


Preferred Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering or related field with seven years of progressively responsible management experience in a construction setting.
  • Ten years' experience in a construction setting.
  • Significant knowledge of construction operations with strong emphasis on math and analytical skills as well as estimating, planning and process skills.


Duties and/or Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for developing operational plans that includes finance, competitor and market assessments and labor needs. Identifies and plans for capital improvements and maintenance needs to support the operations.
  • Closely monitors bidding and materials pricing to maintain a competitive advantage within the markets.
  • Oversees the day to day operational activities of the company to endure that projects are on schedule and within budget.
  • Partners with safety and environmental leaders to develop, train, enforce and support safe practices and policies.
  • Works to develop and maintain working relationships with major customers and seeks out potential customers.
  • Oversees the estimating staff to identify potential projects to bid, pricing of projects, engineering and operational approaches to completing projects and assessment of post bid project success rates.
  • Works with appropriate staff and vendors to oversee the maintenance and replacement programs of equipment, plants and other facilities.
  • Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation is in compliance and being upheld to the highest standard.
  • Develop organizational structure to support business plan levels.
  • Provide leadership and vision to foster employee growth and retention.
  • Ability to travel on short notice and for extended periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge & Skills:



  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software.
  • Able to work independently and under time constraints.
