Job Summary

Serves as full time Faculty Chair providing leadership over the Dental Hygiene program at Rio Salado College, overseeing Dental Hygiene, Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, and noncredit courses. The Faculty Chair of Dental Hygiene will join a small, collaborative, and innovative Faculty Chair cohort who manage their programs, projects, initiatives, and services while supervising a large contingent of adjunct faculty. Residential Faculty members also serve on Rio Salado's Faculty Senate and actively participate in multiple college, district, and even state-level committees. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Responsibilities will involve extended contract for summer work.

Essential Functions

30% - Provides academic leadership for Dental programs, including recruitment, training, evaluation and mentoring of adjunct faculty; assessing and planning; inputs into budget preparation and fiscal administration for program facilities
20% - Instructs and evaluates a diverse group of students; oversees clinical site, curriculum development, including the development of course syllabi, competencies, outlines, and materials for a variety of dental education courses, including integrating technology in classroom and clinical learning environments
15% - Leads and maintains specialized program accreditation standards. Serves on collaborative work teams with faculty, staff and administration
15% - Responds to requests/issues from instructors and students in online, hybrid, and in-person classes. Manages the review and evaluation of departmental curriculum, assessments, partnerships, and programs
10% - Demonstrates dental skills and procedures; develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter to remain current with new trends and developments in the fields of dental hygiene
10% - Oversees 21-chairs in the dental clinic and 10-chair satellite clinic

Minimum Qualifications
  • Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
  • Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree or higher OR
  • A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field OR
  • A Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
  • A Master's degree or higher in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field


Desired Qualifications

A. Experience with the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) specialized accreditation activities
B. Experience with recruiting, directing, and calibrating clinical adjunct faculty and managing a multi-provider dental clinic facility
C. Demonstrated effective leadership, interpersonal communication, organizational and team building skills; budget administration; and the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects effectively
D. Experience with multiple modalities including online educational methodologies, curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, and using Dental software and digital
radiography
E. Experience with national and regional dental testing agencies, specialized knowledge of dental equipment (including, but not limited to sterilizers, dental chairs, power scalers, radiography
with the ability to provide minor repairs), and various dental vendors and providers
F. Experience with coordination, evaluation and participation in determining admission criteria and procedures as well as student promotion and retention criteria

G. Experience working in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment handling multiple tasks/projects effectively
H. Participation in shared governance activities at a higher education institution
I. Experience working with program committees, community stakeholders, and/or industry leaders and leading college committees

Special Working Conditions

Requires local anesthesia certification in the State of Arizona or eligible to obtain; requires to have possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card; requires to have a "Pass" status on an MCCCD supplemental background check based on the standards of MCCCD's clinical experience partners that have established the most stringent requirements; all clinical faculty must meet the health and safety immunization requirements including annual tuberculosis testing, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, COVID-19, and annual Influenza vaccinations. Health and safety requirements are subject to change depending on clinical agency requirements; some evening and/or weekend assignments/hours may be required; local travel may be required; may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending and stooping, lifting up to 40 lbs.; may include direct exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases, ionizing radiation and hazardous chemicals. supplemental summer contracts are required.

Additional Requirements

A minimum of 3 years of Dental Hygiene clinical work experience (30 hours per week) is required; a background in education and the professional experience necessary to understand and fulfill the program goals.

From Commission on Dental Accreditation: Applicant must be a dental hygienist or a dentist who is a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and possesses a masters or higher degree, who has background in education and the professional experience necessary to understand
