Position: Trauma Program Manager Department: Ambulance Schedule: Full Time (40 Hours) POSITION SUMMARY: Under general guidance from the Chief Nursing Officer, the primary responsibility of the Trauma Program Manager is the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the trauma program in accordance with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma for a Level 3 trauma program. The Trauma Program Manager also manages the Trauma Registrars, Trauma Coordinators, and oversees clinical and administrative aspects of the care of ill and injured surgical patient. The role involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, departmental policies and procedures, mission and value statements, and hospital core beliefs, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety, and managing trauma program staff. The Trauma Program Manager collaborates with hospital leaders within and outside of the trauma program team, develops strategic goals, and promotes a healthy and efficient work environment. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates the Level 3 Trauma Program in accordance with American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards and organizational goals, ensuring continuous readiness for verification and compliance.
- Directs performance improvement and patient safety activities by analyzing trauma data, monitoring quality audit filters, conducting case reviews, and implementing corrective actions in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and PI team.
- Oversees trauma registry operations including data abstraction, validation, and reporting to state and national databases, ensuring accurate and timely data submission for quality and research initiatives.
- Manages trauma program staff and resources by providing leadership, scheduling, and guidance to trauma registrars and coordinators to maintain efficient program operations.
- Coordinates multidisciplinary communication and collaboration among clinical and ancillary services, facilitating meetings, education, and process improvements to optimize patient outcomes across the continuum of trauma care.
- Plans and delivers trauma education and outreach activities for internal staff and external partners, including ATLS, TNCC, and EMS training, to enhance clinical competency and community trauma readiness.
- Prepares the organization for ACS verification and regulatory reviews by leading documentation efforts, coordinating site visits, and implementing action plans to maintain trauma center designation.
- Provide on-call support as required, maintaining readiness to address urgent trauma program operational and clinical needs.
- Must possess self-management skills and require little to no supervision. This person must be self-motivating, have a strong work ethic and must have the ability to self-identify issues or opportunities that require attention and change.
Leadership and Human Resource Management *
- Supervise and provide leadership to trauma program staff, including trauma coordinator, and trauma registrar, to maintain high standards of service and safety.
- Manage human resource functions, including recruitment, performance evaluations, staff development, training, orientation, scheduling, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Create and maintain a healthy work environment where staff feel supported, accountable, and engaged in organizational initiatives. Essential duties include:
- Being engaged in the department, including managing up, owning team decisions, and supporting departmental and organizational initiatives.

- Regularly schedule meetings with direct reports.
- Effective human resource management, including effectively disciplining people, recognizing people, completing performance evaluations, and guiding people in professional development.
- Acts as a liaison to and communicates regularly with interdisciplinary leadership teams.
- Stays current with trends and developments in trauma practice and healthcare
Financial and Budget Management
- Participate in budget development and financial management, including identifying cost-saving opportunities and managing drug budgets effectively.
- Support financial processes such as forecasting needs, conducting financial assessments of value.
- Assist with the management of productivity, with a focus on schedule creation and management but including the development of a knowledge of metrics, awareness of performance in real time and demonstrating an ability to adjust to meet productive standards through flexing staff, adjusting schedules, and proactive flexible position control (e.g. recommending to the nursing leadership team the reduction of core FTEs through attrition or layoffs, replacing full FTEs with part time and per diems, effectively using a per diem pool etc.)
Clinical and Educational Collaboration
- Collaborate with clinical teams to develop and implement clinical programs that enhance patient care and optimize therapeutic outcomes.
- Develop and implement training programs for trauma program staff, to ensure clinical and operational competency and foster professional development and continuous learning.
- Train and mentor trauma program staff according to defined outcome expectations and responsibilities, supporting education and maximizing professional potential.
- Works with community partners, including ambulance crews, to provide ongoing education and support so field teams adhere to current ACS guidelines and regulatory changes.
Quality Assurance and Process Improvement
- Lead quality assurance initiatives and process improvement projects to enhance efficiency and safety within the trauma program team and support departmental goals.
- Utilize the hospital's values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission. *

- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or related field required.
- Master's Degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Requires thorough knowledge of care of trauma patients with at least 5-7 years of experience in a clinical setting.
- At least 2 years management experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Registered Nurse licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
- Advanced practice degree in nursing with TCRN specialty certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in professional writing and public speaking.
Compensation Range: $90,500.00- $131,500.00
