The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking a talented, highly organized, and self-motivated technical expert to function as a Quality and Standards Engineer on our Transmission and Distribution (T&D) team. The person in this position will collaborate with current Q&S Engineers in T&D and across the Lifeline Sectors in leading the development and maintenance of Ulteig's transmission line Quality and Standards programs, training team members on industry and client standards, leading transmission line projects, and supporting other tasks/initiatives that are critical to the success of the T&D team.

What You'll Do

Transmission Line Standards



  • Lead development and maintenance of Ulteig's transmission line design standards including but not limited to voltage-specific drawing standards, material standards, and design tools.
  • Develop and execute implementation and training plans for new and updated standards.
  • Manage and ensure conformance of internal standards and processes with industry standards.
  • Review, understand, implement, and communicate changes to department teams on client specific processes and standards as needed on a recurring basis to ensure compliance.
  • Partner with Ulteig's Digital Design team and T&D CADD Lead to ensure alignment and accuracy of software-related standards and supporting tools.
  • Correspond regularly with our key clients and internal client team leads (CTLs) to provide feedback to the T&D department on internal and external upcoming changes and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead and direct T&D Standards Committees for specific subject areas within department, as well as serve on the committees as needed.


  • Interface with T&D Leadership team to align priorities for enhancement of Standards and Quality processes within the department.
  • Support Ulteig's subject matter expert (SME) program and involvement in industry-wide technical topics.


  • Integrate automation and artificial intelligence tools into daily project and task workflows.


Quality Program



  • Manage and lead the T&D Quality program to ensure the highest level of quality is consistently produced across the department.
  • Develop and maintain quality checklists and processes.
  • Lead training on department and company Quality procedures and best practices.
  • Facilitate active sharing of Lessons Learned between project teams and clients with a focus toward continuous improvement.
  • Drive consistency across transmission line project teams, including support of project audits to measure adherence to quality processes and to recommend areas for additional training/improvement.
  • Lead alignment of T&D department with overall Ulteig company quality processes including interfacing with other departments and Lifeline Sectors, supporting Ulteig's Quality Council, Engineering Center of Excellence, and Business Process Management team while advocating for T&D-specific needs at a company level.
  • Assist with development, tracking, and reporting of department specific quality metrics.


Department Training and Mentorship



  • Assist with training and onboarding of new and experienced technical staff to learn department and client standards.
  • Develop and manage onboarding curricula and training content on Ulteig's learning management system in partnership with Ulteig's T&D Training Committee and Learning & Development Manager.
  • Lead and/or facilitate training sessions and act as a department "go-to" resource for new and experienced technical staff on topics including industry standards, best practices, and client requirements.
  • Provide 1:1 mentorship to other members of the department..
  • Act as a "go-to" resource for technical staff on topics including industry standards, best practices, and client specific requirements.


Project Technical Lead



  • Manage and lead all engineering activities during the proposal, design, and construction stages of transmission line design projects.
  • Coordinate with and support internal project manager for managing engineering scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, maintaining project schedules, and directing activities of several disciplines.
  • Maintain high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.
  • Provide project oversight and oversee design activities of team members.
  • Review project drawings, calculations, and specifications, assuming responsible charge as needed.
  • Provide Owners Engineer support for clients on an as-needed/as-available basis.



What We Expect from You:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university or equivalent is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Transmission & Distribution Engineering field preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, required.
  • Extensive experience with one or more of Ulteig's key clients preferred.
  • Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Strong analytic and information management skills.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies.
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills.
  • Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel). Additional software and coding knowledge (Power Point, CoPilot, Power Apps, Access, etc.) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and MFAD with the ability to train others.
  • Previous experience working with or for a Utility is highly preferred.
  • Experienced in Transmission line design and developing construction documents such as design criteria, Plan & Profile, structure drawings, foundation drawings, and construction specifications.
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the US.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $117,300 - $158,700
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
