Senior Data Solutions Developer I

SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Solutions Developer I to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and delivering enterprise-scale, domain-aligned data products and pipelines in Microsoft Fabric using Medallion architecture. The role ensures the Bronze Silver Gold progression is properly implemented, governed, and optimized while mentoring teams and driving adoption of Data Mesh principles across domains

Hiring Locations: Minneapolis, MN (preferred) or Remote

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Architect and implement complex pipelines across multiple domains that scale Medallion architecture patterns.
  • Apply Data Mesh principles by enabling domain-aligned ownership and consumption of curated data products.
  • Define standards for data product ownership, documentation, quality, and observability at all Medallion layers.
  • Optimize Bronze/Silver/Gold layer pipelines for performance, cost efficiency, and enterprise consumption readiness.
  • Lead integration of non-Fabric and transitional data sources, guiding migration to future-state architecture.
  • Mentor associate and platform engineers in best practices for Medallion pipelines and Data Mesh adoption.
  • Partner with stakeholders, data stewards, and data owners to ensure Gold-layer datasets meet semantic model, reporting, and self-service analytics requirements.
  • Enforce governance, security, and compliance policies across all pipelines.
  • Lead domain teams in implementing repeatable Data Mesh ingestion, transformation, and Gold-layer delivery patterns.
  • Enable domain autonomy while enforcing cross-domain standards for data quality, metadata, lineage, and governance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Data Mesh principles and Medallion architecture, ensuring bronze, silver, and gold layers are implemented consistently and optimally.

Data Mesh Accountability

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years in platform/data engineering with enterprise experience.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Medallion architecture, and Data Mesh principles
  • Strong experience in ETL/ELT tools (ADF, SSIS, Informatica, Fivetran), SQL, and data modeling
  • Proven ability to lead cross-domain projects and mentor engineers in Medallion & Data Mesh best practices
  • Experience with hybrid source systems (on-prem/cloud/SaaS)
  • Experience with OneLake or enterprise data lake architecture

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Advanced Power BI, DAX, and Power Query expertise.
  • Experience with enterprise semantic models (SSAS, Tabular, or OLAP).
  • Experience with Power Automate and Power Apps.
  • Agile/Scrum experience with technical leadership in cross-domain data platforms.

The base pay range for this role is $114,500 - $171,800. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
