Primary Responsibilities:

The duties of HDR's Rail Systems Project Specialist generally include risk management, value engineering, project management, design management with technical assistance, and earning value management for various rail and transit projects throughout North America. More specific duties include: supporting and conducting comprehensive Rail Systems risk assessments and helping in the design and coordination process, evaluating potential risks related to project design, construction, and scheduling by analyzing their likelihood and potential impact, while ensuring technical designs adhere to safety, performance, and regulatory standards; working collaboratively with design engineers, structural engineers, subject matter experts, and senior managers to develop and integrate rail systems risk mitigation strategies into engineering plans to prevent increased costs or project delays; conducting feasibility studies, performing variance analyses, and proposing value engineering options to optimize project efficiency and cost-effectiveness, using advanced risk modelling techniques, such as Monte Carlo simulations, to predict potential outcomes and develop contingency plans to address identified uncertainties; maintaining a comprehensive Risk Management Plan (RMP), updating the risk register and assessment reports to reflect evolving project conditions, and conducting regular risk meetings with discipline leads; ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget by monitoring progress, proposing mitigation strategies, and maintaining an up-to-date risk register that reflects design changes; overseeing adherence to design standards, leveraging expertise in technical details and software; collaborating with project managers and design discipline leads, focusing on addressing design comments, managing submittals, and efficiently resolving Requests for Information (RFIs) to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget; maintaining comprehensive tracking for rail and Infrastructure projects using detailed Excel sheets to monitor budget and performance; offering CAD support for tracking field changes, addressing client comments on as-built documentation, and facilitating one-on-one meetings to resolve design, CAD, and critical issues, ensuring timely delivery of as-built documents and coordination of field changes; and performing fieldwork including rail system inspections, verification of designs against as-built conditions, and construction site coordination.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Construction Management, Industrial Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field and 5 years' experience in construction management or a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Industrial Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field and 7 years' experience in construction management.
  • Required experience must include experience in: construction management, project management, design management, and systems engineering for transit infrastructure projects; Estimate to Complete (ETC) Reporting; and Earn Value Management (EVM) Reporting.
  • Must be proficient in: Oracle Primavera; MS Excel; AutoCAD; Timberline; Bluebeam Revu 20; ProjectWise; SharePoint; Procore; In-Eight Team Binder; and Smart Bid-net.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Travel within North America up to 35% of time.

Pay Range: $187,720 to $212,875 per year.
